Maddow: Add Bondage To List ‘Remarkable’ Scandals Michael Steele Has Survived

Will RNC head Michael Steele survive this latest scandal? So far, all signs point to maybe. Just weeks after the RNC was rocked after slides from an offensive fund raising campaign plan was revealed, Steele spent the day yesterday attempting to explain why the RNC coughed up $2000 to cover the bill at the “bondage-themed nightclub.”

Michael Steele was not there personally. The RNC staffer who accompanied the group of young donors to the club has since been fired. But the question remains: why did the bill get approved in the first place?

That said, as Rachel Maddow pointed out last night, the bondage club was just one in a long list of expensive, unnecessary uses of donor dollars revealed in the RNC’s spending disclosure records, including more than $17, 000 on private planes and more than $12, 000 on limos. And that’s in one month. Eee gads! As a result Steele has been labeled “smug” and “ego-centric” by some RNC members who are calling for his resignation. However, Maddow thinks this will probably just be added to “the list of remarkable things” Steele has thus far survived. Video below.

I wrote a snailmail letter today to Mr. Steele, demanding that he resign his post. He is an embarrassment to the Republican Party, conservatism, and himself.

I wonder why these trumped-up criticisms of Michael Steele aren’t indicative of racism. Whenever President Obama is criticized, Maddow immediately tosses out the race card. But then she dishes out this bogus story — bogus because Steele not only didn’t attend but didn’t even know about this event — and doesn’t hesitate to stink up the place with a phony link between Steele and bondage. How low will this woman sink?

Then again, if you took away the smears and mud-throwing from Maddow’s show, there wouldn’t be much left. So I guess she needs to invent smears on a slow-smear day.

If (and I do mean IF) the story is bogus, Mr. Steele is obviously owed a 24k apology. However, it seems that several (mostly credible) news sources are going with the story. On the other hand, if the story is true, Mr. Steele must be excused from his position with the Republican Party or else there is no difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. (OK, I mostly believe there isn’t anyway, but if one party cannot demonstrate that it is a better alternative–IN EVERY WAY–then the Republicans deserve the fate that befalls them.
