Watch: MTV Bans Lady Gaga/Beyonce’s “Telephone,” CNN Reports (Update)

The release of the official music video for the Beyonce/Sasha Fierce’s tag-team with Lady Gaga “Telephone” was met with great Internet approval, hitting 8 million views in just several days. Not so much love at MTV, which has deemed the prison-yard storyline too provocative and has officially banned the video. Which is weird, because we weren’t aware MTV still played music videos…

> Update: MTV disputes the report, in a tweet to Mediaite:

The main MTV channel has already aired it. The morning after the premiere (check bds to verify).. Not sure where CNN got info

We’ve already tallied up our score cards for “Telephone” but in case you’ve missed out on the almost 10-minute long Russ Meyer tribute, here’s the video:

MTV considers this too provocative yet has dozens of shows that basically promote being a sleazy, oversexed, steroid taking douche? Odd.

    MTV is terrible.

Maybe I’m biased because it’s not my style of music but that was pretty lame. As for the video itself, I can see some “provocativeness” but no more then normal. Problem is that it’s insanely long. Takes about 3 minutes just to get to any “music” and then there’s a break before the music continues. Lady Gaga = Madonna crossed with Marilyn Manson crossed with Alice Cooper….nothing original and nothing really shocking.

Does the CNN lady have a source? Has she heard anything official from MTV?

Above, Chris Golas says it’s available on their website and a quick Google shows that the video was pre-reported by MTV News and I’m seeing “news” coverage of it on their website, but as Drew says in the post; Who thought MTV still showed videos? And online, I’m seeing a couple of people guessing that they haven’t aired the video because of its content, but I’m finding no one actually attributing MTV.

Though it’s an unimportant subject, it’s just idle host chat and it can only help the video (I assume there’s also a download), but unless I see or hear something from MTV, I can’t help but think the CNN lady is repeating a rumor.

It looks from the MTV twitter feed that they’re denying it to everyone on earth. And to think, it all started with some innocuous host chat which possibly referenced some watercooler talk, maybe a blogpost (like this) or perhaps, a “news” article from overseas.

Lady gaga is a great entertainer. She is a modern day Madonna. She kissed another woman… Didn’t Madonna do that also in the 80″s and everyone freaked out. Nothing new!

Lady Gaga is indeed very talented young woman. Wouldn’t it be great if she used that talent to promote a positive message to the impressionable young people who idolize her? Instead she promotes lawbreaking and death.

What a waste of great talent, poisoning the minds of the young teen kids who still are very impressionable and influenced by what they see.

She’s not poisoning anyone’s mind. Kids who listen to Gaga already know everything about such things already. Lady Gaga isn’t Barney or Mr. Rogers, so she has no need for any paternal responsibility in her music or persona.

Why, oh why… would any tv station ban a video of mass murder followed by dancing around the corpses?…

    That comment begs the question:
Doesn’t anyone have a responsibility to the greater good of our collective society?

What, no kudos to Mediaite for catching CNN in a misstatement?

MTV’s bans are so arbitrary…also, how is it that VIACOM has become both more puritanical AND less puritanical in the last 20 years? I mean, does anyone remember early 90s hip-hop groups with videos on MTV? Color Me Badd, Public Enemy, Naughty by Nature…how is it that those were fine nearly a generation ago, and yet they–

–oh, wait. I forgot. MTV is aiming to steal Disney’s 8-15 audience these days. Silly me.

I could careless about Lady Gaga. MTV (money television) went into the shitter a long time ago.

MTV’s job is to help destroy. What’s left of your imagination by feeding you endless doses
Of sugar-coated mindless garbage. So don’t create. Be sedate Be a vegetable at home If they have theirway even you will believe this is the future of rock and roll. See the latest rejects from other crap shows wag their tits and their dicks As they lip-synch on screen. There’s something I don’t like about a band who always smiles. They’re just another tax write-off For some schmuck who doesn’t care. Don’t be fooled because
Tin-eared Graph-paper brained accountants Instead of music fans call all the shots at giant record companies now. The lowest common denominator rules. Forget honesty. Forget creativity. The dumbest buy the mostest. That’s the name of the game.

Snooki’s Been Arrested! In Other News: Season Three Has Its Hook!

Breaking news (or a Friday in the middle of the summer's version of breaking news)! Snooki AKA Nicole Polizzi AKA the inspiration costume contest winners at "Remember the Aughts" costume parties for years to come, has been arrested. While details of the arrest are still slim, we can only presume that the MTV star has finally been brought to justice for stealing America's heart.
