Rick Sanchez Explains Tsunami To Audience Of Children, Apparently

video

While networks scramble to come up with original content on the tsunami coverage, CNN’s Rick Sanchez has taken an interesting approach: acting like he’s talking to a bunch of 9-year olds who don’t deserve to be on big-boy news.

Someone needs a nap before he gets really cranky about how science is being used.

O my goodness, it was painful to watch Rick Sanchez, glad CNN pulled him off air!

  • Rescuedog

Good god, Sanchez was being such an uber-douche today. It looks like he was yanked off the air shortly after he shouted at the geologist. “That’s not what I’m asking!!!!” What a joke.

  • puck30

Maybe he needs a 40oz. before he goes on.

  • Ollie

Sanchez is a horse’s patoot on his best days…and this was one of his worst. He was trying SO hard. You could see the wheels (slowly) moving inside his head — thinking this was his big chance for fame. Pretty clear his colleagues think he is a dork too. Rick was ordering cameras moved around and they were ignoring him.

This guy is not fit for a top-250 market UHF station. Get him off the air please CNN!

  • Puter Boi

Jeffrey Smuzinick could not be reached for comment.

  • Newsjunky

Sanchez was a complete tool today. As soon as I saw him seated next to Fredricka Whitfield, I turned off CNN. But, then I turned back just in time to see this live – and it was quite jarring. I couldn’t believe my ears/eyes when he went after that seismologist with a horrified Jacqui Jares looking on… whenever I see him I think of Ron Burgandy. Thankfully, they yanked him off the air almost immediately afterward. What a douche. Go back to local news in Miami, Sanchez. That’s where belong.

  • ExNewsie

Sanchez was so over-the-cliff during the Chile quake/tsunami coverage that he, hopefully, was sent to the penalty box for anchormen. Swear-to-God, his rudeness to the unsuspecting expert was firing-worthy. Good thing the co-anchor and weather chicklet had the good sense to just let him be a complete doofus. Is there no one else at CNN who speaks Spanish? Really?

  • the real john t

I didn’t see the show on CNN. But if that clip was suppose to show Sanchez losing it, I’m sorry but I just don’t see it. I’ve seen Hannity or O’Reilly go after people worse than that.

  • Newsjunky

Well, for starters, @the real john t, Hannity and O’Reilly aren’t news people. You won’t see them anchoring breaking news coverage. Second, when they go after people, it’s usually people used to being in the public eye (politicians, publicity hounds, etc…). Not unsuspecting experts in a breaking news situation that are simply trying to answer some moronic question from a fluffed-up “anchor” person. His behavior was unacceptable and was apparently embarrasing enough to CNN to pull him off the air.

  • http://trickletown.vox.com/ Trickletown

    Typical hot-blooded Sanchez.

  • the real john t

Well I’m sorry, I was just stating my opinion, I just don’t see it. As for O’Reilly and Hannity just going after people used to being in the public eye. How about Jeremy Click, who’s father died in the WTC attack and O’Reilly telling him just to shut up on air? So, I guess it’s not proper to get a little over excited when you’re doing breaking news, but if you’re doing a transcripted show you can be as rude and obnoxious as you want. I see now.

  • marcus.lewis

That was way out of line. Sanchez portends himself as a news anchor, Bill O’ and Hannity are talking heads/commentators. Either way, just because Bill and Hannity are out of line does not make it okay for Sanchez. This dude probably is not a TV guy that’s always on the tube, and he was attempting to answer his question. Does a drop mean that a way that large will hit he asked…and the answer is no. You don’t have to be a genius to figure that one out.

  • the real john t

“Either way, just because Bill and Hannity are out of line does not make it okay for Sanchez.”

I never said that it did. I just stated that I didn’t see him losing it. As far as everyone saying they jerked him off the air. Where is that in this story? Like I said I didn’t see the show I just watched the clip. You saying just “just because Bill and Hannity are out of line”……. So, it’s fine for them to be out of line, but nobody else? Like I said before. I see now.

  • MichelleF

Just imagine for a moment if anyone from Fox did this.

I won’t judge Rick though, I say stupid things all the time before my brain can stop me. Somehow, I don’t he would be that forgiving if a conservative did that on his show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Scott-Heckman/1446404196 Scott Heckman

Maybe Rick thought he was talking to the sheep at the Koldys Kiddie Korner, you have to have an IQ of at least 50 to understand Sanchez, and those sheep are not even close to that.

  • TruthHurts001

“But if that clip was suppose to show Sanchez losing it”

Acting like an idiot does not necessarily equate with “losing it”.

  • http://www.sailrabbits.com Magister

@the real john t: An unexplained joke went from Tumblr to Gawker. Thinking that the joke had a direct connection to the above exchange, Gawker asked for video and because Drew had some, she wrapped it in a Mediaite envelope, posted it here and then submitted the link to the larger site for blog promotion.

…or at least that’s the way it appears to me.

I made fun of Sanchez as a comment to the other site and actually linked back to the Jack Hanna clip here to make my joke, but mostly it appears to be just some meta/bloggy/insidery sausage, when you cut to the chase and I’m sure that if Sanchez left the air shortly after, it was because he was tired.

This is the same dolt — whom the Miami market suffered through for years — said numerous times during the live coverage of a hurricane that it was an earthquake.

I watched earlier today, when he was on with Fredricka Whitfield, and he was doing the same stuff then, too.

    @the real john t
What do Bill and Hannity have to do with Sanchez? Sanchez was a news anchor today. His job was to tell us the news, not be an in-your-face pundit.

BTW. Jeremy GLICK was a far FAR left guy who blamed America and Bush for killing his father on 9/11. He was so crazed about it, that even the crazy 9/11 truthers tried to say that GLICK was/is part of their movement.
I watched that interview, and read the transcript, and, unfortunately, the interview made Glick sound crazy. If you see how he carried on in that interview, any one of us would have told him to shut up, too.

  • the real john t

    @Ben Linus,

“Sanchez was a news anchor today. His job was to tell us the news, not be an in-your-face pundit.”

Well maybe you can answer the question I’ve asked of many RWers but they can’t answer. Why do they keep ranting about O’Reilly’s show being the number one show on cable “news” when all of you keep saying it’s not a news show. Shouldn’t they come up with another catagory to lump him in? Like “opinion shows”.

Has O’Reilly or Hannity ever personally killed a man? Sanchez has.

  • the real john t

“Has O’Reilly or Hannity ever personally killed a man? Sanchez has.”

Not that I know of. But Laura Bush did. Do you really want to go there?

  • http://p8i.com/ Narutoboy

    @ real john t

Then, in terms of “losing it,” there is no equivalence between Sanchez and Hannity/O’Reilly. I’m glad you acknowledge it now.

  • http://p8i.com/ Narutoboy

And, if I remember correctly, Sanchez, like Teddie, bolted before the cops could get to the scene.

  • Frances Martel

See, THIS would be an appropriate time for a cable news channel to bring in Bill Nye the Science Guy.

  • the real john t

“Then, in terms of “losing it,” there is no equivalence between Sanchez and Hannity/O’Reilly.”

No there isn’t, because Hannity and O’Reilly loses it constantly.

  • http://p8i.com/ Narutoboy

    @ real john t

But at the end of the day, Hannity, O’Reilly, and just about every Fox anchor that I can think of, can go home knowing they’ve personally killed no one — something Sanchez can’t say. :-)

    Sanchez is an ass constantly.

  • the real john t

    @Narutoboy

Well, I’m not going to get into a discussion about that with you, because I’ be way off topic.

” How about Jeremy Click, who’s father died in the WTC attack and O’Reilly telling him just to shut up on air?”

Let’s see, we are discussing something Snachez did yesterday. And for balance what do you bring up?
Something O’Reilly did about 9 years ago? Dude, that might work over at some third rate poodle site. But here we tend to try to be a little more current.

O’Reilly loses it constantly and you point to something nine years old. LMAO! What are you going to post next? O’Reilly losing it on a current affair? That’s about twenty years old.

The loofah comment? Well, that’s only six years old.

  • the real john t

    @ puck,

“Something O’Reilly did about 9 years ago? Dude, that might work over at some third rate poodle site. But here we tend to try to be a little more current.”

OH, you do? Then why is Narutoboy bringing up something that happened to Sanchez back in 1990? And what’s with this “But here we”? Are you a moderator on this site? Do you have authority on this site? Please tell me what position you hold.

  • Ben Linus

    @the real john t
“Why do they keep ranting about O’Reilly’s show being the number one show on cable “news” when all of you keep saying it’s not a news show. Shouldn’t they come up with another catagory to lump him in? Like “opinion shows”.”
Wow. I think your crossing over into some kind of fanboy territory here. This sounds like the kind of criticism I would hear on a Star Trek or comic book forum. You know, Mediaite, and any website that analyzes and measures cable news, calls it the “number one show on cable news” because it’s on a cable news network.
Sure, it would be nice if the word “opinion” was on display at the bottom of the screen the whole show, but I think most people know the difference, so they don’t bother.

  • the real john t

    @Ben Linus

Well Ben, I go on many different blogs. There are RWers that will argue that O’Reilly is a “news” journalist. Then if you bring something up he did or didn’t do, they’ll say he’s an opinion show. So maybe it’s the RWers that ought to make up their minds one way or the other. BTW Ben, I’ve heard it advertised as the #1 cable “news” show.

  • puck30

    @ T

Don’t ask me what Narutoboy said can’t you ask him? You got a problem there? Can’t you address the man himself? This is an English based site, do you need an interpreter?

What does it say at the top? Does it say O’Reilly cuts off mic of Jeremy Click? No! It says, Rick Sanchez Explains Tsunami To Audience Of Children, Apparently.

So tell me again, what does a nine year old comment you brought up have to do with what Rick Sachez said yesterday? Mister Narutoboy’s comment might be old but it was somewhat on the subject person. Where what this has to do with what O’Reilly did nine years ago is beyond me.

And no I’m just a poster but I was helping you out, because I know at some third rate poodle sites, nine year old comments I guess still get big yucks. But the purpose here is to discuss things that are happening in real time.

  • puck30

    @T

So you go on ‘some’ RW websites that say this. And you go on some RW websites that say that.

It’s like I go on some LW websites that say Keith Olbermann has the facts to back him up. And I go on some LW websites that say that he’s an embarrassment.

And Keith Olbermann says he’s the number one show not on fox news.

But what this has to do with ‘Rick Sanchez Explains Tsunami To Audience Of Children, Apparently’ is beyond me.

Are you one of those people that is obsesssed with Bill O’Reilly and everything FNC?

  • the real john t

    @puck

You’re the one lecturing me on going back and bringing something that happened so many years ago. I don’t see you getting on Narutoboy about bringing something up that happened 20yrs ago. Yeah I realize to you people when it comes to a liberal you can go back as far as you want. But when it comes to a Con you need to keep it current.

“And no I’m just a poster but I was helping you out”

I’d appreciate it if you didn’t offer your “help” to me anymore.

“Does it say O’Reilly cuts off mic of Jeremy Click?”

I was going to correct that spelling error I made, but I can see you didn’t even know who it was. It’s Jeremy Glick.

Now you can run back to Dollar’s Dump and tell them everything I posted.

  • puck30

BTW Ben, I’ve heard it advertised as the #1 cable “news” show.

    Noooooooo! Really? You’ve heard?

In a court,”I’ve heard” would be called hearsay and laughed out of court. But on third rate poodle sites ‘I’ve heard’ would earn you kudos.

  • the real john t

“Are you one of those people that is obsesssed with Bill O’Reilly”

No I’m not, but you people on Dollar’s Dump are sure obsessed with Olbermann.

  • the real john t

    @ puck30

Hey dummy, I heard it on the Fox station.

  • puck30

So I’m a con? funny, I never did jail time.

And why do I have to fight your fights with Narutoboy? Can’t you stand up for yourself?

Oh boy! Click Glick, MAN! you got me there!

Now wait, you brought up something that happened with O’Reilly nine years ago, and the best you come back with is because I misspelled something you misspelled. You know what you were talking about but I didn’t?

What do you guys smoke at that third rate poodle site? And if you have a problem with some guy’s dump, maybe you should take it up with that person or your local health board. I really can’t help you there.

  • puck30

WOW! now you say you heard it on a Fox Station?

Was it FOX5 in New York? Was it FOX29 in Philadelphia? Was it FOX56 in Scranton?

  • the real john t

“And why do I have to fight your fights with Narutoboy? Can’t you stand up for yourself?”

Where did I ever ask you to fight my fights? You’re the one that jumped into the middle of a conversation between me and someone else. Ranting about how I brought up something from 9yrs ago. When the other person brought up something that happened 20yrs ago. You’re acting just like Ashley/IM Right. The other night she did the same thing, then when I showed her what a fool she was, she tucked tail and didn’t return.

  • redbeard36

Real john you are way off on this. This has nothing to do with comparing Sanchez to other TV personalities. He yelled at the scientist who was volunteering his time to be there, he requested an “English” definition of 9 metres and he couldn’t find Hawaii on his map. Earlier he yelled at one of the meterologists about the actual strength of the earthquake. He did a lousy job as an anchor in an emergency and he was very likely either pulled or he walked out. He was not visible for the 3 hours I watched after that incident.

  • puck30

“No I’m not, but you people on Dollar’s Dump are sure obsessed with Olbermann.”

Well if it’s the site I think you might (I’m not sure) be talking about. Let’s see, their front page says “Everything about cable news and the truth about the Fox News Channel.”

It doesn’t say we are obsessed with Keith Olbermann, in fact the front page of the weekend listing doesn’t mention anything about Keith Olbermann. There’s something about Olby on the Friday listing, but that just links to two stories.

If that’s the site your talking about. BTW: What’s with the ‘you people’ comment? You one of them racists I hear Keith Olbermann talk about?

And what does this have to do with “Rick Sanchez Explains Tsunami To Audience Of Children, Apparently”??

  • the real john t

    @puck,

You seem to have learned well from Koldys. Change a word or letter here or there. If you were capable of reading I said” I heard it on THE Fox station”

  • Rescuedog

God, you O’Reilly vs. Sanchez people are boring. Please stay on topic or go elsewhere.

  • puck30

I don’t know, are you feeling okay?

First you want me to fight Narutoboy, then your acting like a racist by saying “you people”. Now your having delusions about me being two people.

Look I’m gona try to help you out one more time. At the top of the page it says, “Rick Sanchez Explains Tsunami To Audience Of Children, Apparently”.

It doesn’t say, Bill O’Reilly, Jerry Click Glick, Narutoboy, Ashley, I.M. Right, ‘You People”, And somebody’s dump on Long Island.

Maybe you’ve been up to long maybe you need some sleep.

  • the real john t

“he requested an “English” definition of 9 metres”

How about you telling me how much 9 metres is in English measurements.

“He was not visible for the 3 hours I watched after that incident.”

So you watched CNN for 3hrs after that? How’d you pull yourself away from Fox?

  • ramicakl

Thanks for posting this clip. I was trying in vain to explain to my wife how bad this Sanchez guy was on CNN today. This behavior certainly got him pulled off air for the day and if it were up to me, he’d be looking for another job – hopefully not to on camera.

The seismologist was a guest there to offer help and credibility to CNN. Sanchez jumping down the guy’s throat, on national TV, took my breath away.

His words and actions were shameful and indefensible and his simple “sorry” at the end just didn’t cut it.

Couldn’t agree more with the first half dozen posts – off the air with this arrogant condescending, insensitive, rude wannabe translator.

And the guy gets all bent out of shape. But back to Rick Sanchez, I think it was very unprofessional how he treated those guests. Rick should use more decorum.

Well Phuck 30 aren’t you being a little thick, you know exactly what The real Johnt is talking about. He never called you THE ASSLEY, IM A RACIST, or IWANTTOSUCKOLBERMANN, he was talking about the sheep at Dollar Dung Pile. Mr T. makes some good points what Sanchez did was not different than what Billo or KKlannity do on any given night, regarless if they are newspeople or a opinion talk show host. Many Fox News newscasters talk to you like you are a three year old most that dumbass Barbie Carslon and Megan Skelly. Yes Sanchez did have a DUI arrest and kill someone which is horrible, but does that trump everything that Billo has said about Shawn Hornbeck liking being sodomized or that girls asking to be raped. Boy you teabagging racists at the Olbermann, Patrick, Johnt and Patsy obsessed Koldy’s Kiddie Korner need to get a friggin life.

  • ChrisNH

Wow. Sanchez is utterly insufferable. Every single thing that I despise about TV news ‘talent’ is rolled up in this clip. Of course, the positive take-away is that Sanchez probably comes to this site to see what’s being said and written about him. All media hacks do. It’s like a mirror they can’t stay away from. Epic FAIL from someone who’s building up quite a resume of ‘EPIC FAILS.’

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Adkins/1585417987 Bill Adkins

Sanchez has to reach the lowest common denominator as to intellect. It is obvious that in this instance he was trying to reach out to the Tea Partiers and the Glenn Beck audience.

@ the real john t, thanks for steering the thread into meaningless tit-for-tat oblivion, easy to do and doesn’t ever accomplish a thing.

Are my eyes deceiving me or did someone here actually ask if killing someone trumps comments (words) made by a TV host. I’m sorry to say this, but liberalism might possibly be a mental disorder.

Did Sanchez intentionally mean to kill someone……..No………….Does Billo mean to say the things he says……………yes, saying the people enjoyed being kindnapped or a girl “asking for it” by the way she was dressed. Billo is the worse kind of scum, and the thing about it he revels in it.

    @ Scott Heckman

Sanchez drove drunk and killed a man. He also bolted from the scene before the cops could get there. Yes, I’d say that’s much worse than a comment made by some TV host.

And O’Reilly has a point about young girls and the way they dress. If you’re dressed provocatively, especially in a bad neighborhood, good things are not going to happen. But let me ask you something: what you actually do for rape victims? O’Reilly donates thousands of dollars to organization that help rape victims. I’m guessing you’re answer to my question is, “NOTHING!” Typical liberal; all talk, no action. Lots of criticism.
