Ron Paul Jabs Trump Endorsement: ‘Why Would Anyone Care?’

Republican hopeful Ron Paul was unimpressed with Donald Trump‘s endorsement of Mitt Romney Thursday and sent out a campaign email lambasting the media’s extensive coverage.

The campaign email read:

Reality TV star, Donald Trump, who endorsed and contributed money to Harry Reid and Charlie Rangel will travel today to Nevada to endorse a Republican candidate?

Please explain to us why anyone would care.

Please explain to Republican voters in Nevada why they should consider the opinion of a billionaire from New York who endorsed the arch enemy of all Republicans in Nevada, and really the enemy of all Republicans in the US.

Hopefully, media reports of this event will include this delicious irony.

Watch Paul dismiss Trump’s endorsement below via Fox 13:

Wheres all the right wing fundies chiming in and calling Paul a nut job, I guess when its one of there’s accepting the endorsement of the carnival side show that is named Trump the stay silent when another right winger calls him out. Hypocrites

  • http://www.facebook.com/ben.edens Ben Edens

what do Ron Paul being a nut job and Trump endorsing Romney have to do with each other?  They are are two entirely different subjects.

  • http://mediamatters.org/ Leedog

Ron, Republicans care a great deal!! Remember that Trump was leading in the polls for the Republican nomination!!

Ron, I think the real question should be: “Why are Republicans so stupid?”

  • sid_id

I didn’t know irony could be delicious. Is this anything like revenge is a dish best served cold?  Who writes these cute culinary colloquialism’s for Ron.

Republcans need Ron Pauls supporters to beat Obama and we will only vote for him.

We Paulistinians will treat the Republican nominee exactly like the Party has treated Dr. Paul!

RON PAUL – Easy to spell and easier to write in!

  • http://beerandtrembling.wordpress.com/ Jake

That expression very common in English. It is so common that The Simpsons made a joke (and malapropism) about it:

    Bart: The ironing is delicious!
    Lisa: The word is “irony.”
    Bart: Huh?

I’m a big Ron Paul guy but it’s a little disheartening to see him polling so low after flirting with victory early on. To me it’s simply the Republican party that is holding him down and yet promoting his message at the same time. I really hope he runs 3rd party after Mitt buys the nomination. RON PAUL 2012

The system is rigged so anyone who doesn’t fit the corporate mould will never win.

Having said that, Ron Paul is an ignoramus. Gold standard, letting people drown in hurricanes and not provding health care and education for poor people. These are the reason why the thirld world exists. There has never been and never will be a big rich country that doesn’t have a big government to ensure all sorts of things are in place to facilitate economic prosperity.

He is ignorant of history and seems never to do basic arithmetic because he is blinded by ‘free market’ ideology. Free markets the way he thinks of them are a disaster and poor countries practice them all the time.

  • sid_id

I can honestly say that I had never heard that phrase before. I like it though.

I surfed over to your blog and read a few of your posts there. Very interesting philosophy and some valid points. I do have one question though, do you philosophise before or after your “review” of the various beers you feature.

Seriously though, your analysis on the ruling two-party system in this country is quite accurate. Why third party candidates (and other candidates as well) are not given the same rights and stature as the “status quo” is a disservice to those with alternative solutions to very grave problems that we face as a nation. Is it because we have been brainwashed for years and years to believe that they and only they can effectively govern this nation. I think that history has proven that the “status quo” is in it for themselves and only themselves.

Take Ron Paul for example, in the past he has run as a Libertarian with dismal results. This election cycle he decided to try something different and entered the race on the Republican ticket while still maintaing his Libertarian ideology. His viewpoint on foreign policy is often described by the media and the other candidates as dangerous, but is it really. Do they actually think because he wants to scale back on our foreign policy of being the world’s policeman that he would put the U.S. in a position that we wouldn’t be able to defend ourselves, of course not. At the debates when he talks about how we would feel if other countries were to invade our sovereignty as we do on a regular basis, the cameras promptly cut away to the other candidates who are smirking and rolling their eyes. Look at this thread, only 8 comments at the time of this writing while the other candidate’s threads are full of people spewing out the same garbage we have heard over and over in relation to the two-party ruling system. Meanwhile, still embracing the “status quo” and enabling them to continue with the vise like grip they maintain on our government.

When I think about the “status quo” that has us deadlocked in a perputual state of inactivity and the inability to get anything accomplished, that famous quote about insanity comes to mind — doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Exactly Ron. And why would any candidate fly to vegas to be part of Trump’s egotistical reality TV personna? They are both to cartoon like for me.

  • Anonymous

Ron Paul knows his party is on a pathway to doom. He’s just stepping to the side & letting everyone know that he wants nothing to do with this idiocy. Good for him.

Gold Standard –  This will prevent the Government from spending as much money as they like and then turning to the FED to print more money which in turn causes inflation tax.

Hurricanes –  If people buy insurance that would take care of it.  If my house is the only one that gets struck by a tornado I do not get government assistance because the state has not declared an emergency.    See the fallacy?  Promise for assistance is for votes.  Most do not even qualify.

Education –  If inflation was not so high (goes back to not having a Gold standard) cost of education would not be so high and people could afford education, even the poor.

I grew up in a poor family in a “3rd world” country.  My parents did not take any assistance, worked hard and paid for our education(like Americans did 50 years ago).  I am doing the same thing in America except that whatever I am saving is becoming worth less because of America’s stupid foreign policy.

  • http://twitter.com/GregGaugler Greg Gaugler

Not going by the gold standard is insane. Thats whats going to create a 3rd world. When our USD is the equivilant of 3rd world money.

I can respect liberal thinking, and I think the US should return to their ideas, but first the system is broke and needs a reset before we put more good ideas into a corrupt system.

As for the hurricanes comment.. I think of it like this.

3 people have the same job, same pay, and they each build the same house.

Person A, builds their house in a flood zone because its cheap, convenient, and he’ll have lots of extra money.

Person B, builds the same house next door, because its convenient to him, but its a flood zone, so he buys insurance which is very expensive in that area. Person B now doesn’t have extra money, and is now living just within his means.

Person C, builds his house in a completely different location where its much safer. So his property and taxes are much more expensive. He now has just enough to live within his means.

Person A, buys lots of cool devices, luxury items, eats out, and vacations a lot with his extra money.

    **FLOODING OCCURS IN THE AREA**
    Person A loses everything.
Person B is protected by his insurance.
Person C is away from danger.

The United States government now steps in…. Even though Person B & C are just getting by, their taxes now need to go towards rebuilding Persons A’s house. Their taxes may even go up to help do so.

Does this seem right to you? So who should help out Person A who made bad decisions? People who want to. Not people who are forced to by law.

  • Albert M

Voters who want wars, torture, assassinations, “humanitarian” bombings in oil rich countries, indefinite detentions, drone attacks that kill the innocent, erosion of civil liberties, domestic war on the people (drug war), out-of-control debt and spending, graft and greed, crony capitalism, pandering to special interests, bailouts, more of the same, must NOT vote for Ron Paul.

Voters who want peace, a humane foreign policy, restoration of civil liberties, an end to the war on drugs, sound money, balanced budgets, honesty, integrity and transparency in government, and a President wholly committed to Constitutional government can vote for Ron Paul.

    Ain’t that difficult a choice.

I’m with Ron Paul.  Why would anyone care.  (about a Trump endorsement)

  • http://beerandtrembling.wordpress.com/ Jake

Thanks for having a look at the blog. In theory the reading, thinking and drinking go hand-in-hand… in-hand More practically, however, I tend to do them at different times out of convenience. Also it is MUCH easier to drink beer than to think critically and write intelligibly, so I tend develop a backlog of beer reviews and struggle to get out what little weekly writing I do.

More on topic, Dr. Paul is a very interesting example of the value of third parties in the two party system. Even when third parties don’t win elections, if they make enough noise the “major parties” will adjust their platforms in an attempt to reel in the swing voters. (The Socialist Party platform of the 1920′s  has been totally incorporated by both the Republicans and Democrats.) If Dr. Paul fails to win the nomination, don’t be surprised if the nominee changes his platform to try to attract the Paulites. If that happens, Dr. Paul will have made a difference. (Until after the general election. After that, campaign platforms and promises really no longer matter.)

You do realize that India recently purchased oil with gold instead of US dollars don’t you? The dollar is losing it’s global appeal (bad news for us) because governments are seeing that it isn’t worth the paper that it’s printed on, because it isn’t backed by gold. The gold system, or competeing currencies at the very least, will ensure that our money holds value. When your dollars are as worthless as toilet paper, you will wish that we would have returned to the gold standard.

  • Zeljko Romanovic

Simple to see..after New Hampshire all Media received a memo to limit and marginalize Paul as much as possible..the results SC and Florida. Media is a SUPER SUPER PAC which unfortunately holds credibility unlike any other Pac especially with older americans who haven’t had enough in voting for people that destroy this country.

However, Paul can at least compete with the MSM super super pac in smaller states and hopefully pull a few upsets.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7RAUTOHWKEBCDLDF4U32OGXR2A Noe

Totally agree Ketan. I must add that Ron wants to have competitive currency to go up against the fiat currency. That way people can choose which monetary system they would prefer to use for their purchasing power. In this way, the federal reserve would have competition and slowly but surely we would see the decline of the dollar having any influence or purchasing power because it would not backed up by any commodities, like gold and silver.

He’s actually doing better in national polls. Don’t let S. Carolina and Florida get you down. It was all part of Paul’s plan to mostly ignore S. Carolina and completely ignore Florida. The demographics aren’t great and it takes a lot of money to put a dint in media markets of that size. It should also be understood that Florida is a winner take all state. They had half of their delegates stripped as well.

He’s been out organizing in the caucus states. That is where his resources went. I think it is a great strategy. I think he will win Maine, maybe Minnesota, and place a close second in Nevada. He’s going to rack up a lot of delegates.

Just watch over the next two weeks what happens. I think Paul’s strategy is excellent.

He never talked about building a lunar colony and making the moon the 51st state, and he doesn’t change opinion on everything every other day. I though the whole reason Trump was interested in getting into the race was because Romney might win? It couldn’t have been because he was worried about Ron Paul, since Paul “has no chance”. Nowhere in my post did I say that he ran as a Libertarian in 2008, or even mention the year 2008.  What I did say was that “in the past” he ran as a Libertarian. In 1988, he was the nominee of the Libertarian Party.  I’m not sure what dimension of time that you reside in, but 1988 is considered part of “in the past”.

  • Чёрт Возьми

The whole “3rd world” thing is not about economics, per se. It is Cold War terminology. The 1st world was the rich democracies–any country that spoke English and Western Europe. The 2nd world was the commies–Russia and China and their puppets. The 3rd world was everybody else–the weak and poor, like all of Africa, India, etc. The 3rd world could be ignored while the 1st and 2nd world competed for domination.

Your fantasies don’t change anything. Brtain, France, Spain and every other country that has had its time in the sun had huge armies, massive civil service, etc. You cannot have a rich and powerful country with small goernments. The very idea is a contradiction in terms and never happened in history. You know why? It can’t. Do you think Goldman Sachs traders of EXXON oil guys are protecting themsleves? Wealth depends on organisation, research and technology, and infrastructure. All done collectively for obvious reasons.

The constitution wouldn’t mean anything if you dismantle the government. Ron Paul is the sort of idiot who thinks we should live in a country with no safety net; he wants to get rid of medicare, public schools, social security and desaster relief. Why would anyone vote to cut their own throat? The man doesn’t know what he is talking about.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Emma-Thomas/100003357377085 Emma Thomas

You see, people have to stop relying on silly youtube videos and think they know anything. We know EXACTLY why bond yields are so low: artificially low interest rates, courtesy of the Federal Reserve. The ridiculously low rates, coupled with the massive influx of new currency into the economy, can only result in a 1929-esque bubble that will, this time, send our society into a tailspin from which we may never recover.

The policies you advocate will turn this place into a third-world nation, without a doubt. Look up Zimbabwe, Argentina, and Albania for insight on how hyperinflation works.

Ron Paul doesn’t want to dismantle government.  He wants to follow the Constitution.  The Constitution did establish limited government – you either do not understand The Constitution, or you have no concept of what Ron Paul is saying.  Either way, you are way off base.

Ron Paul does not want to get rid of Medicare or Medicaid.  He wants people to be able to opt out, yes, but this is far different.  There are people who rely on these services and he recognizes this.  If you look at the economics though, we are bankrupt and cannot afford these types of programs.  If the economy continues its downward spiral, the government will be forced to end these programs anyway and the recipients get nothing.  Paul is saying the only way to continue to provide your “safety net” is to cut extravagant military spending overseas.  (we spend over 20Billion a year just on A/C in Iraq and Afghanistan) – in this way, we can start to balance the economy, and continue to assist those who rely on these types of programs.

Paul also does not want to get rid of public schooling, he just wants to get the Federal government out of the education business.  He wants to return education back to the states where it belongs.  It wasn’t that long ago that states had control over education, not the federal government.  At the same time, he wants to allow similar benefits for voucher and home schools – competition increases productivity and lowers cost.  Again, you are wrong.

Dr. Paul does not want to do away with SS either.  Please see my medicaid/medicare response.

Disaster relief.  There have been a number of really good responses to this already.  I would read Greg Gaugler’s response above.

Your description of Ron Paul as an idiot is highly inaccurate.  I would encourage you to actually understand what you are talking about before you make comments such as these.  It only paints you with the same description you use to marginalize Paul.

As everyone now knows, we TEA Party Republicans are the “real
conservatives” and they know that President Obama has governed this
country just like another big spending moderate Republican; i.e. Obama
just raised the debt ceiling yet again, gave still more money for dept
of education, gave still more money for the TSA, gave still more money
for the banks, more to the dept of HUD, gave still more money for
government health care and on and on. Nothing has been cut. Just like a
good follower GW Bush, he resigned patriot act, resigned the Military
Commissions Act, resigned FISA, kept gitmo and other American overseas
gulags, invaded still more countries, signed NDAA, attacked pot smokers
in California disregarding states rights and always sided with Israel
over Palestinian objections to more settlements on Palestinian land.
But, we have had enough of Washington! We have been Taxed Enough
Already! That means we must “Stop the Spending!”
([Oh, so who are you voting for Mr. TEA party man?])

“Well we need somebody who can beat Obama. So we think Mitt Romney
will get our vote. We think he can get “America working again”.

    ([What did you say?])

Yes, I do really believe that!

([Well that's why there is just is no hope for America])

Hey, what do you mean “that’s why there is no hope for America”…?
Hey, come back here! What do you mean by that? Hey, I asked you a
    question!”

Speaking of Doctor Paul, now we know the “real truth”, all thanks to
this liberal magazine called The New Republic. Some liberal guy named
James Kirchick went over 20 years of Ron Paul Investment Newsletters
and he found 12 sentences “offensive” and “racist” in articles that he did
not write from 1992, some 20 years ago, you know, when he was delivering
those 2000 babies! No, the “n” word was never used, but he did call a
spade a spade which today is only Politically Correct when black comics
say such things. Black teenaged robbers who are fast! Come on Dr Paul,
you could catch them! So we really must take our hats off to our
liberal media. Now we know Dr. Paul is “really” a card carrying kkk
white supremacist neo-nazi loving racist! (What old white man isn’t?
Right liberal media? Wink, wink.) So all that Bill of Rights-Civil
Rights talk from Ron Paul, why that turns out to be just a clever ruse!
Thank you liberal media, you can go back to uncritically worshiping the
first black President. (What, there is nothing racist about that). So
thank you liberal media for all your hard work at putting this all into
context for us, and thank you The New Republic for asking liberals,
“What are Ron Paul’s liberal fans thinking?” and then failing to ask
them directly. Yes, voting Democrat has never been easier. It’s as
    simple as black and white.

Well, I was about to respond to you however, it looks as though MC1171611 has summed it up well enough. Regardless of what you may assume about Dr. Pauls supporters, most of us are well educated about economic issues, as our studies on the subject are what drew many of us to Dr. Paul in the first place. Educating ones self goes far deeper than just a few YouTube videos and talking points garnered from talking heads. I have co-owned a fairly large Telecomm Fiber Optics business so economics was of fundamental importance to me. Do I believe I know everything? No, that is why I am constantly educating myself. Unlike you, who obviously feels as though YOU know it all, since you assume to know all about my ‘youtube’ education as well as assuming that I don’t know about bonds. (Which MC is correct about, might I add.) You seem to be quite the hypocrite. Perhaps you should take an economics/business course or two.

I think Emma might one of those poor souls “educated” by the liberal/socialist propaganda mills who need cradle-to-grave “security” because they’re terrified of the self-responsibility that comes hand-in-hand with individual Liberty.

Paul makes a good point. If you really think about it, who the Hell IS Donald Trump? Other than being an ego-inflated multi-millionaire, he’s NOBODY. The only person impressed with anything he says is, really, HIMSELF. He’s just a pedantic, bombastic egomaniac with a really bad hairstylist and his endorsement or opinion of anyone or anything couldn’t interest me less. But because he’s a super-Republican with lots of money, he could endorse Howdy Doody for President and the stupid right-wing would cheer.

We aren’t voting for Romney or Newt.  We are voting for Liberty,  not more debt slavery.

Paulute the RNC and destroy the Romney machinery!  Why are Repubs so afraid of Paul running for 3rd party?  He said he has no plans for running as a 3rd party (that is for now) but he also said that his statement is not absolute.  That he will not be able to tell what lies ahead for him and can change his mind.  The fact of the matter is, no true Paul supporter will ever vote for Romney or any other candidate so there’s no way that he’s taking away voters from Repubs.  He will also get the anti-Romneys and anti-Obamas whether they are Repubs or Dems. It’s Ron Paul or nothing. LIVE or DIE!

Trump is exactly what this nation needs, he operated many of his businesses basically in bankruptcy, then turned around and walked away with the money.  That’s the kind of president I want, one that knows how to made a good business deal.

If Ron Paul were president, Trump would actually have to go find a job and work, and we wouldn’t have had all those casinos.  No worries though, Romney will get it, and everything will be just fine like it is now.

If you want things in your life to change, you first have to change things in your life.

Now Emma, how are we going to get out of debt and turn this economy around? Congress and the President keep spending and spending. Borrowing more and more from communist china. The Fed keeps printing money out of thin air..Ron embraces freedom and the constitution. Limited government and you and the 7 likes you got have a better idea than the Constitution? I’d say your extremely ignorant.

Wake up Emma, do your research. It’s obvious that you haven’t read much of what Ron Paul has written. Don’t rely on media or NeoCON rhetoric and propaganda to establish your position on Ron Paul. That would be extremely foolish of you.

Ron Paul, basically, is asking those of us who CAN produce and take part in the success of our society DO SO. It’s the “me first” narcissism which is kicking our butt. We like to work a little, play a LOT, we expect government to cover for us when we screw up but get the hell out of the way during playtime. That’s adolescent behavior..

Ron Paul is asking us to operate a free market system WITH  ethics and responsibility.. That means that the “consumer” is as liable for the successful outcome as the business sector. Remember Erin Brockovitch?  She knows how it’s done..

Government-managed business systems will get you a lifestyle you won’t enjoy. Ask some of the Russian immigrants you might know how that worked out for the USSR.

Again…time to wake up to reality..

Mitt Romney’s anagram is “Minty Metro”

Are you serious? Do you know how many times Trump has filed for bankruptcy? The guy’s a total hack and is completely ignorant to national and world affairs.

I live 6 miles from the ocean and I’m not in a flood area, but my homeowners insurance keeps going up every year. I’m subsidizing the rich that have big ocean front homes. They can well afford higher premiums if they can afford million dollar homes. Every few years the hurricane line gets pushed farther and farther inland to accommodate the wealthy. This is robbing the poor to pay for the rich. I’m not poor, but at the rate the insurance companies are raising their premiums I soon will be. If people want to live in luxury they should pay for it themselves and not pass off the higher risk to others.

I guess you never heard of personal responsibility. This country surivied almost 200 years without medicare, medicade, and many other social programs that expanded the budget to the point where we can no longer afford these programs. If we stopped playing world policeman maybe we could have afforded these programs.

But, Iran doesn’t have a nuclear bomb and never said they desire to bulid one. They need nuclear power to generate electricity. Iran must import all it’s fuel, it doesn’t have refineries. If it closed the Strait of Hormuz Iran wouldn’t be able to import or export anything. Our government and media are conspiring to start another unnecessary war, but this time the people will not rally around the government, they are sick of unnecessary wars.

Paul IS a bit of a nut job, if a value in forwarding a ‘tough love’ approach (much like the value in the Tea Party forcing a conversation on our debt). TRUMP’S goofy but whatd’ya say: Don’t endorse me? With his scattershot cannon of a mouth, say this and he’d make it look like a carnival again (like when the media was promoting his ‘run’ for President earlier). I repeat, TRUMP’S goofy!

Republicans DON’T ‘care for Trump’, TRUMP ‘cares for’ TRUMP.
