This Exists: News Anchor Barbie
Badly-dressed lady journalists can now look to a new style icon for inspiration: News Anchor Barbie, a doll that comes with her own microphone, news folder, and a “powerful pink and black ensemble.” Right—because obviously, when we think of Barbie, the first thing that comes to mind is female empowerment.
The “inspiring” play set also comes with “a special code that unlocks career-themed content online, for even more digital play!” Does that mean News Anchor Barbie is secretly a blogger? If so, how come she’s so dressed up?
This toy is the latest iteration of Mattel’s career-themed “I Can Be…” line. To put things in perspective, other occupations to which the toy company thinks girls should aspire include Computer Engineer, Newborn Baby Doctor, Rock Star, Dentist, and… Babysitter. Some of these things are not like the others!
