The communications director for President-elect Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign has decided to back away from the White House job he was offered earlier this week.
Jason Miller is a surrogate and regular fixture on Trump’s staff, and a Thursday announcement suggested that he would continue his role as part of the new administration. Miller has now revealed that he will not take the job because he wants to spend more time with his family as his wife prepares to give birth.
“After spending this past week with my family…it is clear they need to be my top priority right now, and this is not the right time to start a new job as demanding as White House communications director,” Miller said, according to The Hill. “My wife and I are also excited about the arrival of our second daughter in January, and I need to put them in front of my career.”

Sean Spicer, who Trump named as his White House press secretary, will take over Miller’s responsibilities upon his departure. Miller said he would finish his current work on Trump’s transition team, and would eventually work on supporting the president-elect from outside the administration.
