As I began to watch the interview he gave to Jorge Ramos, I found myself moving closer and closer to the TV, as if I were deciphering a strange language. The premier Spanish network had made the awful choice of dubbing instead of subtitling the interview. (more...)

Did President Obama's Sunday media blitz make a difference? It's hard to tell, though the headlines would suggest that the takeaway thus far seems to be split between issues of race and Obama's ability to manage the media. Also, the lack of a takeaway line -- beyond the fact Obama is still holding out for the White Sox -- is telling. Kanye West may be a jackass but he also has his own viral twitter avatar -- rude works! As the President is apparently painfully aware. We took a look at how the four interviews went (excluding Univision for this post), and what was learned, based on several categories: number of questions, first, last and best question and how the host handled the all-important "race" question. You heard me. Aside from being an object of reverence for millions and having a rather shayna punim, these two have something very specific in common, tied to recent events. Yes, Megan Fox may give boys the kind of heart palpitations requiring proper health care, and yes President Barack Obama may be accused of feeding on the taxpayer like a bloodsucking socialist vampire, but actually it's far more mundane than that: They're both pretty expert at packaging — and using — their soundbites. Yesterday we reported that President Obama -- who has made more public appearances than perhaps any sitting president in history -- will be doing a "El Completo Ginsburg" on Sunday, hitting five Sunday shows. On Monday he'll be on Letterman. It may be that the health care bill gets passed based purely Obama's persistent willingness to shill for it. (more...)
