Michelle Obama’s iCarly Appearance: Hamsters, Robots, And Dancing

VIDEO
» 32 comments

First Lady Michelle Obama‘s much-hyped iCarly episode aired on Monday night, and she had some fun with the guest spot, participating in a game show where she has to guess if a character named Gibby is wearing a hat or criticizing his pet hamster, sharing secret robot-building plans, and dancing with the cast of the show.

Mrs. Obama, who turns 48 today, had appeared in an earlier segment, sharing her admiration for Carly’s father’s military service. Buoyed by her visit, they asked the First Lady to appear on their web show, which featured the Gibby game. She correctly answers three questions — a new record — and wins a bag of nuts and bolts.

“Now I can finally finish that robot!” an excited First Lady declares, before an adviser steps up to the podium and whispers something in her ear.

“I’m not supposed to mention the robot?” She asks, dejectedly.

“No,” the man says, walking away.

Carly then announces that the show is over, and everyone starts dancing.

    Because my 9 years old daughter is a huge ICarly fan, we watched the entire episode (not a short clip). It was smartly written as always (episode with security service guys very funny), but Michelle Obama didn’t look either comfortable or sincere, it was pretty obvious, it’s not her type of a gig. Unnatural. You have to be a deadbeat Michelle’s fun to say otherwise.

    Indoctrinating the tweens now!!! Damn you Obama!!!!

    Stuff I didn’t know before seeing this clip:

    1. According to tv.com, iCarly typically gathers online viewer ratings of between 7.5 & 8.5 – from “good” to “great”.

    2. According to the Wikipedia entry, it actually sustains an impressively high ADULT following.

    3. According to Politifacts*, Governor Rick Perry got 1 out of 3 on “Hat or Criticizing Hamster”**, using up all his lifelines in a desperate tho successful effort to avoid being shut out.***

    * Okay, it’s not necessarily Politifacts …
    ** or, for that matter, anywhere;
    *** yet, it certainly sounds the ringtone of truthiness.

    uh … Nando: clean-up in Graph 2 (“the Fist Lady”).

    Congratulations, you only took 25 minutes to post directly below the post continuing the countdown to someone who knew you’d be posting a hate comment.  OK, that could have been said more easily but hey, you did it so you get the prize.

    I’m sorry, but if you consider my comment as “a hate’ comment, then you have a “hate’ problem. I don’t hate anybody ever. Saying that Michelle Obama looked unnatural is my observation, for which I probably have no right, according to you. And I’m saying that as somebody who has an experience of both working with politicians and on TV. To be a guest star on sitcom requires the skills that Michelle Obama lacks, not to mention that I consider it an appropriate for politicians (or their wifes) to be on kids’ shows in the election year. And it has nothing to do with ‘hate’.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

    What a fabulous retort! So witty!

    Considering how hard it is to act on a TV show, I think she did pretty well.  She is strong supporter of the military and their families (even criticized lately for having a great Halloween party for the children of military paid for by Hershey’s) so she did not seem out of place in the story plot.  She even danced at the end – Nancy Reagan didn’t do that on Different Strokes in 1983!

    He’s very desperate that “tedderman” fellow. Just pat him on the head and give him a biscuit. ;)

  • Anonymous

    See, we might be seeing differently and not, because we ‘hate’ Michelle or Nancy. I still think, it’s better fo politiccians to be kept away from kids’s shows.

    Thanks for a friendly advice. That “tedderman” fellow probably doesn’t take anything from the hands of an enemy. :)

    After a tough Hawaiian vacation…I see the first…..uh…..(fill in the blank) is hard at work again, indoctrinating the youth.
    When am I going to read about something worthwhile that this useless waste has done?

    I’m so glad I didn’t watch that episode (I like to watch stuff with my kids)…Seeing Michelle would have made me barf.

    I schooled a horse instead…Much more relaxing.

    How’s that HATE speech working out for you?

  • Anonymous

    I don’t even want to read about her.

    Is that HATE speech?
