Piers Morgan Trails All Other CNN Programs In Prime

ratings

Cable news ratings, February 24, 2011:

•CNN’s 8 p.m. hour, Piers Morgan Tonight, had a rough night Thursday, coming nowhere near its timeslot competitors Rachel Maddow and Sean Hannity, but also falling behind all of CNN’s other programs, with 155,000 viewers 25-54. The closest CNN show was the bound-for-revamp Parker Spitzer, which had 167,000. Being outperformed by far lower profile shows like John King USA, which has significantly less promotion behind it, is telling.

•The calm, serious Wolf Blitzer continues to demonstrate surprising ratings power in The Situation Room, which hit 256,000 viewers 25-54 at 6 p.m., easily beating competitor Chris Matthews at MSNBC and putting Blitzer into second place behind Anderson Cooper among CNN personalities.

maddow and o’donnell are doing pretty well. id drop matthews/uygur and put 3 more nbc (less partisan) hosts in those timeslots.

  • Moderate

I guess the fact that Fox destroyed all competition is no longer news to Mediaite.

  • notsofast

He is closing in on Behar.

Hey, I thought Beck was losing viewers?

Watched this guys show yesterday when he was interviewing larry king. I had to turn it off because of how many awkward pauses there were. It was like the entire show made me cringe.

I felt your pain there, Man THAT was a mini freakshow, what’s CNN thinking there? Piers made ole Larry look like a genius

CNN is in a death spiral. They fire Kathleen Parker and keep Eliot Spitzer — which I can predict right now will be a ratings disasters. Piers Morgan is plummeting. And their most popular programs can’t approach the ratings Fox generates in the middle of the night with Redeye.

And that’s what happens when a network sacrifices journalism for political correctness and partisan advocacy.

Piers Morgan gets less viewers then Tingles? Jeez, how does this guy go home and keep from sticking a shotgun in his mouth and painting the wall…. LOL

lol wut? I’d say they’re far less partisan than fox. Remember the memo of ailes telling his reporters to refer to the healthcare law as government healthcare? Or how they completely falsified a story about obama spending billions of dollars to go to india?

also, spitzer had higher ratings when parker wasn’t there so you’re argument doesn’t hold any water.

When is Piers going to start stomping FOX, like he promised?

Spin it ,son- that’s all ya can do.

GB is on at 5PM and he destroys all other cable news programs that are in prime time.

    LOL

    keep spinning it!

Maybe he will do what MSNBC does- report on what FOX is saying; that way, we will have 3 FOX channels to watch!

Some Fox hosts are partisan. But the big difference between Fox and CNN is that Fox hosts who are conservative still seek out liberal guests for frank and open discussion. CNN never allows that kind of free-flowing dialogue, since their top priority is political correctness. And they are further hampered by a pronounced duplicity in the CNN offering — which can be described in a few words: liberal bias masquerading as impartial journalism. This type of deception and dishonesty can’t be found at Fox, where there frank and open discussion allows for a type of transparency that CNN has never allowed. This is why CNN is dying — their basic offering is a renunciation of true journalism, yet never reaches for honest advocacy. So they are caught betwixt and between, and no one — liberal or conservative or moderate — will find sustenance in their programming.

good job ignoring both of my points. I’m talking about their primetime news room where it was reported that obama was taking a billion trip to india. Fox seeks out liberals and then either shouts them down or cuts their microphone.

    LOL

So you say they at times act like MSNBC, son?

  • http://Mediaite.com uggugg

It’s not the economy stupid; it’s the fact that we don’t have enough businesses to put people to work. Today’s businesses formed a Cartel like the OPEC Oil gangsters. This legally kills all competition. They do this to monopolize production and services to horde everything for the few who belong to the Cartel. Wise up you educated dummies; real management could have caught this long before the economic debacle this same group created.

  • Nachi

Americans lack both the culture & the attention span to watch Piers. Charley Sheen is more in line with their “family values” & intellectual levels.

Watch Fox sometime. Then perhaps you can speak intelligently on the subject. Every evening, liberals are allowed to speak their mind. It’s the drones at MSNBC that screen out and shout down conservative views. More opposing viewpoints are presented in a single evening on Fox than Olbermann allowed in five years of Countdown. Your views are so out of whack with reality that you merely betray your bias and ignorance.

No Charlie represents the Left quite well, son.

Let’s see Nachi. I think most of us “Americans” can handle 60 minutes with Piers & Howard Stern or Oprah or even Janet Jackson.

But you’re somewhat right about the Charlie Sheen thing, even though you haven’t a clue WHY.
Americans are obsessed with being entertained! We’ll spend hours watching the “hottest” news story. We just don’t want to think very much, most of us, and this is going to bite us one day.

Do you remember our “national obsession” on 9/11/2001? Do the names Chandra Levy & Gary Condit ring a bell? Our media was entertaining us hour after hour about this mystery. Not just Nancy Grace & Greta, but ALL the media. Then suddenly … well, you know the rest.
Now I’m waiting for something worse to jolt us back to reality. I hate feeling this way & hope I’m wrong. But two things make me consider this the short-term inevitable outcome. These two things are:
    (1) Our incredible & overwhelming lack of political leadership at the federal level.
    (2) The constant desire to be entertained instead of to serve & help others, which is brought about by the lack of federal leadership. (I’m talking about ALL presidents for 50 years)

Truth is I don’t care that much whether Charlie Sheen dies or not. His only enemy is his EGO.
I do care about EACH serviceman, EACH innocent being killed in Libya, EACH “good” teacher who is getting the shaft from his/her greedy labor union bosses, EACH family who bought a home they could afford & still got screwed by politicians (Frank & Dobbs in particular) who set up a corrupt system that could only fail at some point, EACH American who would love to give useful help to those less fortunate, but, because of our lack of leadership, just doesn’t know where to start & has nobody to “lead” them.

Just ONE good president could light a fire under this nation (the good kind of fire). No other national leader can do this, only the American President, and we’ve got one who can’t lead and doesn’t understand what made the United States so great that everyone in the world wants to come here.

What are you smoking? Quit repeating what you read at the loon blogs. You don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Look above, over 2 million viewers at 5pm. That is incredible. Only in your ignorant mind is that losing viewers. You know nothing about advertising, you just repeat what the left would like to believe.

Piers Morgan was a huge mistake for CNN. Glad to see Wolf Blitzer doing well. The ME uprisings have reminded me that no one does a better job with global crisis reporting than CNN. Wolf, correspondents Ben Wedemen and Nic Robertson (among others) have been fantastic. Just a shame that it takes something like that to showcase CNN’s strengths.
