‘Race-Baiting Ambush!’ Joy Reid Melts Down Over Interview With ‘Thirsty Little Troll’ Piers Morgan

Joy Reid accused Piers Morgan of a laying a “race-baiting ambush” for her after the two sat for an interview Morgan claims “did not go well” for the former MSNBC host.

In a two-part explainer released ahead of the interview for her Joy Reid Show on YouTube, Reid called Morgan a “thirsty troll” who hyper-fixated on the subject of race, and hit her with “the ultimate gotcha” by bringing up a blog post that was 16 years old.

Reid said of Morgan:

Let me actually start just by reminding myself just how thirsty Piers Morgan is. And you will be forgiven for not knowing who Piers Morgan is. He won The Celebrity Apprentice with Donald Trump way back in 2008 and was considered a journalist working at a time for a British tabloid called The Daily Mirror when the paper was implicated in a scandal for hacking the phones of famous people, though he himself denied involvement. And he has hosted various other canceled news shows on CNN and ITV and other places, including podcasts such as the one that he hosts now, but mainly as, again, someone who considered himself a member of the media. He has become in this current iteration of his career, a rather thirsty little troll.

According to Reid, her PR team booked her on Morgan’s show to promote her new show and she agreed though he wasn’t her “first choice.” She read from an email sent by Morgan’s team that promised a “free flowing conversation covering several topics in Joy’s wheelhouse, including the Trump administration, Elon Musk establishing a new political party, ICE raids, and news of the day. We’d also like to discuss her leaving MSNBC and setting up her new online venture.”

“Okay, sounds compelling. But it turns out that is not what the interview was about. Instead, Piers used a 45-minute interview to ambush me, mainly about his favorite subject, race. Specifically, why Black people like me talk so much about race, especially when it comes to Donald Trump, which is ironic, right? In bringing up the fact of race and Donald Trump, that is in fact, Piers literally talking about race,” Reid said.

She called out Morgan for leaning into his “schtick” for the interview.

“Specifically, Piers demanded to know why I don’t call the Black president a fascist for deporting more brown people than Trump has and why I brought up being black at MSNBC in an interview with Mark Lamont Hill and various other topics, most of them weirdly connected to me being Black. Because of course, that is Piers’s shtick, right?” she said.

In the second part of her explainer, Reid said Morgan hit her with a “gotcha” by bringing up a years-old blog post and past comments in defense of a book that some school districts have banned over sexual content, All Boys Aren’t Blue, a memoir authored by queer and non-binary LGBTQ activist George M. Johnson.

“Piers went for the ultimate gotcha, drudging up an eight-year-old story of my former online blog to really make the rather insane point that the award-winning book All Boys Aren’t Blue is pornography ,and that parents should not be able to decide for themselves if their high school kids should read it,” she said.

Morgan took to X to tease his Reid interview himself, claiming it “did not go well” for his guest.

“I interviewed Joy Reid last night. It did not go well… for Joy Reid. In fact, it went so badly for her that she’s already gone public about how terrible it was, and I am. Apparently, I’m obsessed with race & identity politics,” he wrote.
