Rep. Louis Gohmert’s Train Wreck ‘Terror Baby’ Interview on AC360

video

On last night’s Anderson Cooper 360, Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-Tx) tried his damnedest to warn Cooper, and the rest of us, that the sky is falling. Actually, he’s warning that it’s raining “Terror Babies,” babies deliberately birthed in the US to be used as passport-having terrorists decades from now.

Anderson Cooper, meanwhile, challenged Gohmert to produce some evidence to support the fetal fire alarm he pulled on the House floor in June. The result was 10 minutes of chaos that left Gohmert no closer to stemming the tide of hypothetical, homicidal infants. (h/t C&L)

For those of you playing along at home, here is the Washington Post “Birth Tourism” article that Gohmert references:

As Cooper points out, while the existence of “birth tourism” suggests the possibility of “Terror Babies” (I call them The Gohmerta), the plausibility of Gohmert’s pile is another matter entirely. What is plausible is the recruitment of already-grown “Terror Former-Babies,” and do you know what our Constitution allows them to do? Buy guns!

For what it’s worth, Gohmert doesn’t appear to be just “scare-mongering,” he seems to be genuinely scared. Would it kill us to look into some neo-natal full body scanners?

The story I read about this said Gohmert’s only evidence is that a retired FBI agent told him they are looking into this as a possibility. Can he do any better than that? You could probably look into time travel as a possibility too.

Hey, Tommy! Did you get around to writing that correction yet? You really don’t want to deal with a pissed off alpaca.

  • BatBoy

I didn’t see Tommy at today’s WH Briefing or was that him crawling around on the floor looking the Helen Thomas nameplate?

Note to Anderson…CNN is in shambles…so is your show. If you want to find out about “Terror Babies” go to the source and quit screwing around with members of Congress. (Hint: this type of reporting is why your show is at the bottom of the charts…Just Saying!!!)

  • Bootleghaircut

And another GOP talking point dies a sad and lonely death…

  • newzmaker

Anderson’s being the typical liberal, who believes if he denies any type of terrorism exists in the US, that maybe the terrorists won’t blow him up; I call this the ‘Rosie O’Donnell Syndrome.’ On the other hand, I sort of feel sorry for the Representative. Listening to this guy, is like watching an episode of “Gomer Pyle.” Geez….

  • roxsteady

Gomer Pyle indeed. The real question is what kind of person would vote for someone so ignorant and embarrassing? Perhaps in Gomer, they see themselves. You know, like those Palin drones who say “She’s just like us.” Maybe Texas should secede. They’re an embarrassment to the rest of the country.

  • Azarkhan

    Louis Gohmert, meet Joe Barton.

Some Republicans are so fucking stupid that if they didn’t exist, Democrats would have to invent them.

Good one, Pablo. I hadn’t seen that. Talk about a smackdown using a simple thing like facts. Tommy and others here at Mediaite could take a lesson from Dr. Laura. A quick correction/apology, etc. without trying to make excuses goes a long way in garnering respect.

Also noticed there’s been nothing done to update the ‘Paul Rand kidnapped a college friend’ though the ‘victim’ gave an exclusive to the Wash Post the other day saying how it was blown way out of proportion.

The explosions will not happen for…5…10…20 years.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Another proud moment of fear-mongering for the Right.

Anyone doing the “Chicken Little” routine had better be able to support it sans the paranoia.

It’s not the one in ten million terrorist baby we need to worry about. It’s the ten million unskilled illiterate third world peasants we’ve invited into our increasingly poor nation.

Remove “third world peasants” and you could be talking about the south.

Of course, as a citizen of the world, Anderson Vanderbilt Cooper’s main concern is world poverty.

Actually, it’s urban minorities that pay the major price for this invasion; and they do so in the form of repressed wages, public school over-crowding, crime etc.

@BatBoy, “Note to Anderson…CNN is in shambles…so is your show. If you want to find out about “Terror Babies” go to the source and quit screwing around with members of Congress.”

Anderson has been harping on this non-story all week. I don’t understand why he is so obsessed with this “fantasy” when there is absolutely no evidence to support it. It sounds like something right out of the National Enquirer, but I guess he believes it will raise his ratings and I think he may be trying to distract his more gullible viewers from the very real problem of anchor babies and illegal immigration.

I agree with you, this is the type of “reporting” that keeps Anderson’s ratings in the crapper. Why doesn’t he get off his holier than thou “throne” and do some real investigating for a change to dispel this rumor once and for all? All of this back and forth arguing is accomplishing nothing.

360 is beginning to look like the theater of the absurd.

It’s interesting: call people from the South names (unskilled peasants) and liberals reflexively give you a thumbs up. I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and I spent many summers vacationing in New England with relatives in Maine and Mass so I know this attitude well. Though I now live in Austin, TX, I’ve never been to the South per se. I assume Paul’s point was made at the expsne of specifically white southerners, even though I am willing to bet money black southerners have higher rates of illiteracy. Any takers?

Moreover, isn’t it also interesting how liberals have completely abandoned their poorer white counterparts the simply being the butt of cheap jokes. This corresponds with their utter abandonment by the labor movement and the larger Democratic Party in the interest of racial politics and future Hipanic voters.

My comment was a joke as well. And I don’t think either party does well by the poor, regardless of the poor person’s race. They are too far-removed.

Fair enough. I didn’t mean to target you specifically with that observation; I was just using your joke as to launch off on the left at large. But of course you’re right about the establishment Republican Party vis-a-vis the white working class. They simply manipulate their emotions for votes, and they bite, which in turn earns them the contempt and emnity of the left etc and so on.

  • ConLoonPatrol

This nutjob is like all right wingers as proven by the nutjobs on this thread who endlessly support and defend the right wing loons.

They’re all loons. They are all going to destroy this country unless they are stopped.

No that’s OK. I didn’t make it completely clear and wanted to clarify.

“They simply manipulate their emotions for votes” – describes both major parties and how they treat constituents. Most were born well-off and just got wealthier as time went on. They have no clue what it’s like to truly struggle.

Democrat like to get them into the hood with no path out….

Conservatives like to try to give them jobs so they can improve themselves.

Oh please Batboy. This is a massive, enormous, huge oversimplification and misrepresentation of reality. In other words, what you do best.

Breaking News! CNN has been infiltrated by bed bugs, this could be bigger than terror babies! I am sure Anderson will find a way to blame it on the right wingers.

I thought about using that to say, “Yeah, George W. Bush”, but I decided against it because actually, I like Bush. Not as President, but as a guy, he’s likable and he does have a certain charm to him.

I voted for Obama, but I’m not embarrassed about it nor is he ignorant (only to those on the right is he ignorant). So I’ll save that comment for when we elect The Situation as President of the United States. You know it’s gonna happen.

” and do you know what our Constitution allows them to do? Buy guns!”

If the terror babies turn out to really be terrorists when they grow up, they will buy guns and make bombs, etc. whether the constitution allows it or not.

It is not that he is ignorant … it is that he has not the slightest idea of what a President should do and not do!

Bat boy is the perfect name for you because you’re carry the water for your crazy GOP congressmen. This congressman didn’t have answer for Anderson because he has no clue what he is talking about so he just rambled on about Anderson’s reporting. I have to give to you credit, you take it for the team.
