Jeffrey Toobin: Kirstjen Nielsen Will Forever Be Known as the ‘Woman Who Put Children in Cages’
CNN Chief Legal Analyst Jeffrey Toobin addressed Kirstjen Nielsen‘s Sunday departure from the Trump administration Monday morning and noted a pattern for those that have worked for President Donald Trump.
“Kirstjen Nielsen is a great example of what happens when you go to work for Donald Trump,” Toobin opened, adding “He’s the great reputation killer.”
Toobin then noted that Nielsen is a woman who was a “reasonably admired bureaucrat” but now, after serving as the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, “for the rest of her life people will look at her and think, oh, that’s the woman who put children in cages. That’s the woman who broke up families across the border. You know what? They’ll be right.
Toobin clarified that while Attorney General Jeff Sessions sort of created these policies, Nielsen implemented it, finishing with “She’s going to get what she deserves.”
Bloomberg’s Margaret Talev later added that Nielsen’s sudden ouster is a “warning sign” to other cabinet nominees that Trump “may dump you anyway.”
