WATCH: New York City’s 2022 Ball Drop in Times Square

New York City’s Times Square is holding their annual ball drop to officially ring in the start of 2022.

The celebration is going ahead despite public concerns about the festivities surrounding the event, due to the ongoing coronavirus surge from the Omicron variant. In-person celebrations at Times Square were significantly scaled back due to these concerns, and attendees had to be vaccinated and test negative for Covid while wearing masks at all times.

The ball drop will be followed by the swearing in of Mayor-elect Eric Adams, who is expected to take the oath in Times Square.
