Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio, who was pardoned by President Donald Trump for his actions surrounding January 6th, was arrested during a Friday press conference in front of the U.S. Capitol.

Tarrio and Oath Keepers’ founder Stewart Rhodes, who were both convicted of seditious conspiracy against the United States, held a press conference with other Proud Boys members, which drew counter-protestors.

Tarrio was reportedly arrested following a spat with one of those protestors.

The Hill reported that “a spokesperson for USCP said Tarrio was arrested for simple assault. A counter-protester put a cell phone close to his face and he struck her phone and arm in response.”

“The counter-protester said she wanted to file charges, so Tarrio was arrested. The incident took place between the Capitol and Washington’s Union Station. Two counter-protesters were seen filling out what appeared to be police reports,” added the report.

Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in helping to plan the January 6th attack on the Capitol, although he did not storm the building that day. He was pardoned alongside some 1,500 other January 6th defendants, including those who violently attacked police officers.

Tarrio has publicly discussed running for office since his release from prison.
