A Georgia congressman is pitching a bill to make it easier for President Donald Trump to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) is touting his bill, called the Timely Oversight of Operations, Liquidity, Accountability, Targeting, and Effectiveness Act (or the TOO LATE Act), derived from Trump’s nickname for the much-maligned Fed boss.
The bill, which has been obtained by Fox News Digital, would give Trump the authority to oust Powell if the federal funds target rate skews by more than 200 basis points from average over two consecutive quarters.
“Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell missed the moment to cut rates, hurting Americans,” Carter wrote in an X post Friday. “My bill empowers the President to fire a Fed Chair who fails the American people. #TOOLATEAct”
Despite persistently assailing Powell on social media, Trump has said he would not fire him because doing so would be “very disruptive.”
Earlier this week, Trump threatened to sue Powell because of the “horrible, and grossly incompetent, job he has done in managing the construction of the Fed Buildings.”
