Vice President JD Vance snapped back at a left-leaning influencer on Saturday after the critic pointed out that a proposed military plan from the administration could include potential war crimes.
“Killing cartel members who poison our fellow citizens is the highest and best use of our military,” Vance posted to X on Saturday morning.
The post followed reports that President Donald Trump is weighing plans to makes strikes inside of Venezuela to target cartels. The administration took out an alleged drug boat departing Venezuela this week, killing 11 people.
“Killing the citizens of another nation who are civilians without any due process is called a war crime,” Brian Krassenstein wrote in response to Vance’s post on potential military strikes.
“I don’t give a sh*t what you call it,” Vance snapped back.
“Killing 11 people in this way could be classified as an extrajudicial killing under international human rights law, potentially exposing U.S. officials to responsibility,” Krassenstein followed up with. “Good luck in 2029. Any idea what the penalty for such a crime would be?”
According to officials, the drug boat that was taken out this week was tied to the Tren de Aragua gang. It was carried out in international waters.
Vance was confronted by a reporter on the legal authority of the strike earlier this week.
“I’m sure there’s going to be an after-action report,” the vice president said. “I mean, the legal authority, and I want to talk about these kids, is that there are people who are bringing literal terrorists, who are bringing deadly drugs into our country, and the President of the United States ran on a promise of stopping this poison from coming into our country.”
