A woman pushing a baby stroller came within inches of disaster last week when a manhole explosion erupted on the sidewalk just behind her in a harrowing moment caught on video.

The clip, shared on Facebook by the Poughkeepsie Fire Department last week, shows the woman pushing the stroller with another child walking beside her down Academy Street in Poughkeepsie.

Suddenly, the walkway bursts open with a cloud of smoke, sending the woman and kids scrambling down the street to get away.

The explosion was one of two reported in the city on April 19.

“A manhole halfway down the block as well as another on the corner of Academy and Church Streets had also exploded very narrowly missing three pedestrians,” the fire department said in the Facebook post. “Thankfully no injuries were reported.”

ABC News later reported, “Firefighters were there within minutes, and found high levels of gas in the craters left in the pavement.”

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t know’; I didn’t know where to go,” said Lisa Davis, the woman in the clip with her two grandkids.

“I didn’t know what to do except grab my grandson and run,” Davis told ABC.
