‘Her Words Are Worthless!’ Fox’s Martha MacCallum Piles on Columbia’s President After Student Protestors Ignore Deadline

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum blasted Columbia University President Minouche Shafik after student protestors ignored the 2:00 p.m. deadline she set for them to leave their encampment on Monday, arguing that she’s not “in charge of anything” during a segment with Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen.

“Marc, good to have you here. I mean, her words are worthless at this point. I mean, she has allowed them to break every single barrier that she has set down or time limit that she has set down. I mean, it doesn’t seem like, you know, the president is in charge of anything at this point, Marc,” mused MacCallum to kick off their conversation.

“No, she’s lost control of her campus and she is doing she’s not doing right by the students, the vast majority of whom are not engaged in this behavior. I mean, look, these students don’t seem to get the irony that they are protesting what they incorrectly call an illegal occupation by engaging in an illegal occupation,” replied Thiessen. “The First Amendment does not give you the right to engage in disorderly conduct to disrupt the lives of everybody else around you. And it also doesn’t protect you from the consequences of doing that. So, you know, if these kids get kicked out of school — and they every one of them should be, they should be kicked out of school — that is the consequence of your action. You don’t have a right to graduate if you behave this way. You don’t have a right to be at Columbia if you behave this way.”

“I don’t know about you, but when I was in school, if you broke the rules, you got kicked out of school,” submitted MacCallum. “But it is stunning to me that this president doesn’t speak out and say, and she said this in a letter, but the letter has no teeth because it doesn’t seem to be happening.”

Shafik announced on Monday that students who did not leave their encampment by the deadline this afternoon would risk probation, suspension, and even expulsion.
