Now that the infamous Trump/Russia dossier is back in the news—and with the focus being on who funded it—the game of political hot potato is now back in the laps of the 2016 Republican primary candidates. It has been widely reported that the initial opposition project was funded by a GOP backer, but when his or her candidate lost the primary, the DNC and Hillary Clinton‘s campaign funded the Fusion GPS research. It was at this juncture that the  Christopher Steele/Rusian Dossier research started.

To make the matters more interesting for fellow GOP, President Donald Trump is claiming to know who among his primary foes initially paid for the research. Naturally, the reaction of the media has been to bring these past primary’s candidates onto television and to pseudo-surprise them with the muted question of the hour. Yesterday’s inaugural victim was Sen. Rand Paul on Fox and Friends, and today’s was naturally Sen. Marco Rubio‘s time to answer the question.

The following exchange comes from today’s edition of the Wolf with Wolf Blitzer:

Blitzer: So your campaign never funded the research any of the initial research?—and you are right. That research was done before Christopher Steele, the former British spy got involved. I just want to be precise—your campaign had nothing to do with it, right?Rubio: With GPS, that group? Absolutely not. I think that is

abundantly clear from all the reporting that it wasn’t a campaign-driven thing. But again, we will see where it all leads.

Indeed, we will see where it all leads… *Paging Ted Cruz, to cable news.*

It’s your turn in the hot seat.
