Things got slightly contentious on MSNBC today when Hallie Jackson interviewed Newsmax Media CEO Chris Ruddy about the latest developments surrounding President Trump and Robert Mueller‘s special investigation.
Jackson began by noting that Ruddy was correct last year when he said Trump wanted to fire Mueller, even though the White House continues to insist it isn’t true. Ruddy didn’t want to implicitly suggest by default that the White House is “lying,” and he cited Trump’s recent comments to make the argument that the president now believes the Russia probe will be fair to him.
As Ruddy argued that there is no evidence of collusion, Jackson noted that Mueller’s investigation is still on, so nothing’s been officially determined yet. Ruddy snarked about the “circular logic” of that argument, and he proceeded to bring up the allegations that the Justice Department used the controversial Fusion GPS dossier to launch improper FISA investigations into the Trump campaign.
As Jackson tried to differentiate the investigations into collusion and obstruction of justice, and she also brought up NBC’s most recent reports that Trump is looking for ways to derail Mueller and his team. As the two continued to discuss, Ruddy eventually stated that the president has be “very cooperative” with Mueller and hasn’t tried fighting against the investigation.
