Tim Burchett Rants Against ‘Demonic’ Netflix Shows for Causing ‘Explosion of Transgender’ In Fox News Hit
Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) ranted against “demonic” Netflix shows aimed at kids with LGBTQ characters as a plot from the “pits of hell” by “left-wing propaganda outlets” that was causing an “explosion of transgender.”
The comments come after Elon Musk and other MAGA influencers called on followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions en masse, accusing the streaming giant of pushing trans storylines on children through its kids’ programming.
As a result Burchett vowed to haul top Netflix executives before Congress, announcing the move in an appearance on right-wing commentator Benny Johnson’s podcast.
In an interview with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany on Saturday in America, Burchett doubled down on his criticism and characterization of the shows as “demonic”, while acknowledging a “First Amendment concern” in terms of any action that could be taken.
McEnany introduced the topic by saying how she’d been so “disturbed” by the viral MAGA campaign that she was “deleting Netflix” her children’s iPads.
Burchett replied by repeating his call for accountability:
We need to call the heads in of Netflix and some of these other left-wing propaganda outlets that are out there. You know, we have a First Amendment concern, of course, but this is the FCC, and there is something called community standards. And we need to know why are they putting this thing out?
Rounding on the way modern shows are made, he suggested that Netflix by design work in an effort at “molding” kids’ “brains”:
I’ve kind of dug into this a little bit more, and the way they do it is they do these scenes, and they switch them around very fast. In the old days [in the era of comedian and producer] Andy Griffith, it was just one camera and it was great. And [modern producers] do different scenes and it’s moving around every second, and that releases certain things in young children’s minds, and we need to find out why are they doing like this because this is contracting their brains, this is molding their brains.
Burchett likened the inclusion of progressive storylines to experiments in subliminal advertising designed to influence the subconscious of viewers without them having registered the exposure to an idea or product:
In the ‘50s and ’60s they did a study one time and they put a soft drink, they put three slides of it in a movie one time, soft drink with the water coming down the side and you could tell it was really cold. You didn’t see it but your brain picked it up and they made that illegal because people were rushing out buying soft drinks of course and this is exactly what their doing now.
He continued:
It’s possible that congress needs to outlaw this type of activity, and it’s really just a way to move kids’ young minds. The one thing we found out during to covid, we started looking over kids’ shoulders at what their teachers, what they were getting from their schools, and these young Americans, these young children, we ought to have more control over are soaking this stuff up and that’s why you’re seeing the explosion of transgender and all this.
And to me, ma’am, it’s demonic. I’m a believer, I know you’re a believer. But I believe this is from the pits of hell.
The host agreed, calling the campaign a battle of “good vs. evil” and that she was “thrilled” Burchett would “call some of these guys before Congress.”
The pile on began this week when Musk flagged attention on Dead End: Paranormal Park, a Netflix cartoon cancelled in 2023, in which a character named Barney tells others he’s trans. MAGA account Libs of TikTok branded the scene “not ok,” noting the show was advertised to seven-year-olds. The post has drawn more than 4.3 million views. Since then other conservatives have flagged other titles that feature transgender stories.
“Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids,” Musk posted on X, sharing a cartoon that depicted the platform as a Trojan Horse carrying the “Transgender Woke Agenda” into the minds of children.
In a separate post, he insisted it was “true” that Netflix is “actively pushing” transgender content and revealed he had cancelled his own subscription.
