No Labels Won’t Field 3rd Party Presidential Candidate

No Labels, the nonpartisan group that had been flirting with backing a presidential candidate to compete with President Joe Biden and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump, has decided not to field a ticket, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), and several others had been floated as potential candidates. But No Labels founder and CEO, Nancy Jacobson, “told allies this week that the group would announce Monday that it won’t pursue a presidential campaign this year because it hasn’t been able to recruit a credible ticket that could win the election,” per the Journal.

The addition of another notable candidate would have been particularly notable given the fact that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is already throwing a wrench in this year’s election cycle.

In January, a No Labels-affiliated Super PAC that planned on raising $300 million was formed to back a potential ticket endorsed by the group. “Most Americans clearly believe a Biden vs Trump rematch fails to offer them a choice that fulfills the full promise of a healthy Democracy. The people are demanding another option,” asserted the PAC in a statement at the time.
