Full Video of Fiery Heritage Foundation Meeting Published — After Leadership Threatened to Fire Leakers
The Washington Free Beacon published a video encompassing the entirety of a Heritage Foundation meeting about the uproar over the statement issued by its president, Kevin Roberts, about Tucker Carlson’s interview with Nick Fuentes last week.
Roberts has been under fire from a wide variety of voices on the right for denouncing critics of Carlson as being part of a “venomous coalition.”
On Wednesday, Roberts apologized to Heritage staff, declaring: “I made a mistake and I let you down and I let down this institution. Period. Full Stop.” The apology marked a departure from his previous comments about the controversy, which saw him argue that his words had been misinterpreted.
Free Beacon editor-in-chief Eliana Johnson, who obtained the video, noted that Heritage chief operating officer Eric Korsvall, stated that “If we see someone leaking, you’re fired,” during a Q&A period, which began with an employee showering Roberts with praise and complaining about the steady stream of leaks coming out of the organization. Evidently, Korsvall’s threat fell on deaf ears.
At other points in the meeting, sparks flew.
Heritage senior legal fellow Amy Swearer tore into Roberts, declaring that she has “no ability to say I have confidence in your leadership for this institution moving forward. And I also know that that sentiment is shared by others in this room who, for reasons that I think are perfectly reasonable, especially given what we’ve seen this last week, are afraid to say that exact same thing openly and directly.”
“Dr. Roberts, over the last week you have shown a stunning lack of both courage and judgment,” said Swearer. “There’s nothing ambiguous about what we saw happen. Tucker Carlson invited a Holocaust-denying neo-Nazi onto his show, and then spent roughly two hours doing little more than flirting with him.”
She went on to characterize his statement as “a masterclass in cowardice.”
When she finished, Roberts commended Swearer for her “radical candor,” and expressed his gratitude for her commitment to Heritage, but did not respond to her sharp criticism of him.
