A man brandishing knives was shot and killed Tuesday near the secure zone of the Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

According to series of posts from columnist Dan O’Donnell, the suspect — a Black man “believed to be in his 20s” — was armed with knives in a residential neighborhood that is roughly a mile from the venue.

Police reportedly performed CPR on the suspect after he was shot. The Secret Service and Homeland Security are investigating the incident.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinal reporter John Diedrich later confirmed that the officer was from out of town. The shooting occurred near the intersection of North 14th and West Vliet Streets.

One eyewitness identified as “Emmanuel” said the man brandishing the knives was involved in a dispute with another man. Emmanuel claimed the neighborhood “would’ve handled it” had police not arrived and shot one of them.
