A 2008 Olympian Just Found Out She Won a Medal Due to Three Competitors’ Positive Drug Tests

screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-11-57-49-amChaunte Lowe, an American high jumper, placed sixth in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It turns out that may be good enough to win her a medal.

On Thursday, more than eight years after the competition — yes, eight years — she was told about a series of disqualifications which moved her up to Bronze medal position.

The International Olympic Committee released a statement announcing the disqualifications due to positive drug tests.

In a now inaccesible tweet due to Lowe protecting her Twitter account, the high-jumper wrote:

“So I guess I am an #Olympic Medalist now. The 3 people that finished immediately in front of me in 2008 tested positive giving in (sic) me bronze!”
