Police in Nashville are responding to a 1:15 P.M. call reporting an active shooter at Carmike 8 Movie Theater in Antioch. Nearby businesses have locked their doors and warnings have been sent out to avoid the area.
Witnesses at a nearby business reported one woman was covered with blood, having been attacked with a hatchet, and others have claimed that theatergoers ran out accompanied by others who are injured.

UPDATE – 3:11 P.M. E.S.T The shooter has reportedly died, having been shot by police.
UPDATE – 3:17 P.M. E.S.T Nashville Police’s Don Aaron have told CNN that law enforcement engaged the gunmen inside a theater projection room showing Mad Max: Fury Road. Police have confirmed the suspect is dead and say the immediate danger is over, but the bomb squad is examining two backpacks reportedly left at the site.
UPDATE – 3:32 P.M. E.S.T The shooter has been described by witnesses as a white male, who was estimated to be middle-aged.
UPDATE – 3:46 P.M. E.S.T Brian Haas of the Nashville Fire Department said that 3 people, including the woman attacked with the hatchet, were also attacked with pepper spray. Haas described the wound as a superficial bruise, and said no one has been transported to the hospital yet.
UPDATE – 4:00 P.M. E.S.T Aaron held a press conference outside the theater. He said there were three confirmed victims so far: one man who was injured in the neck by the hatchet, and two women who were also hit with the chemical spray. He added that witnesses have said that the suspect was a 51 year old local man who interacted with local businessmen before he entered the theater with his packs.
UPDATE – 5:58 P.M. E.S.T In one of the shooter’s bags, police decided to do a controlled detonation on site, saying that they were alarmed by the contents they found inside. Reports indicate that the backpack carried a bomb, but it was actually fake.
UPDATE – 8:42 P.M. E.S.T New indications from Nashville police say that the suspect’s handgun was actually a pellet gun.
