Children On Capsized South Korean Ferry Reportedly Still Alive In Air Pocket
Rescuers saved some of the passengers on a ferry that sank near South Korea Wednesday morning, but hundreds of people are still missing, and a new report from Reuters says that some of the passengers including children on the ferry are still alive in an air pocket.
Almost 300 of the 490 passengers have so far not been accounted for, but the father of one of the schoolchildren on the ferry received a text message saying, “I am alive, there are students alive, please save us quickly,” according to Reuters.
A large number of passengers on the ferry were high school students. One of the parents is so desperate, she says, “If I could teach myself to dive, I would jump in the water and try to find my daughter.”
Six have been confirmed dead thus far.
