Tomi Lahren Admonishes Lindsay Clancy Critics Dismissing Postpartum Depression

Fox News’s The Big Weekend Show took on the issue of postpartum depression when discussing the case of Lindsay Clancy, a nurse on trial for the murder of her three children.

“I think that this topic, I wish we had more time for it, because it’s not going to get solved in five minutes, right?” host Tomi Lahren began. “It’s such a gray area and so much nuance here. Now, again, it’s not to say that Lindsay Clancy does not need to pay for what she did do her three children. That is a horrific tragedy, and I think there are few people who believe that she should get off scot-free for this, and I’m not one of those people who thinks that she doesn’t need to pay for what she did.”

Lahren continued:

I’m simply saying this: To dismiss postpartum depression as if it is a figment of the imagination, as if it is not real, as if it couldn’t possibly impact women, I think is irresponsible. I think There’s a discussion that needs to be had in the country about the drugs that mothers are put on, the number of drugs mums are put on, how postpartum is handled in our health care health care system, and just an overall discussion on this which so many women deal with. Now, that is a discussion that can happen simultaneously with saying that this person needs to pay for what she did to her three kids because three kids are dead.

So, I think there are few people that are dismissing the tragedy that occurred. It’s more about having an honest discussion about what women go through, and perhaps trying to find a solution that doesn’t fail mothers who are crying out for help. And that’s what I will say on that, and I know it’s polarizing, but shutting down the discussion doesn’t help anybody either.

Her co-host Joey Jones, a combat veteran, followed-up by taking a hard line on anyone who uses mental illness as an excuse to commit a crime.

“Yeah, you know, a veteran comes back from war where he got blown up, saw his buddies die, get blown to pieces,” Jones said. “He comes back from war.  If he takes an exercise band and chokes the life out of his three children I want him to go to jail forever. I don’t want there to be any doubt in society that an act like that — of killing Cora, Dawson, and Callan when you’re the person most responsible for their safety — I don’t want there to be any doubt in society that you might get to go to a nicer facility and have better treatment or enjoy what’s left of your life more, at least be in more comfort, if you were crazy when you did it.”
