Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will vote for Hillary Clinton.
He made the announcement before a crowd of 1,000 business and political leaders at the Long Island Association Fall Luncheon, where he condemned Donald Trump and praised his opponent for her temperament, stamina, and record serving as Secretary of State, according to reporters.

Newsday‘s Robert Brodsky reported that Powell told attendees that Trump “insults us every day” and that the GOP nominee was a charlatan who had sold his supporters a “bill of goods.”
“He has insulted America in one way almost every day,” Powell said of Trump. “He has insulted Latino Americans. He has insulted African Americans. He has insulted women. He has insulted his own party. He has insulted our allies around the world one by one. He has insulted veterans.”
Powell’s disdain for Trump was already a matter of public record. In leaked emails, he called the Republican nominee a “national disgrace and an international pariah.” Additionally, he expressed his annoyance with the way Clinton had handled revelations about her email server.
In another leaked email (from 2014) Powell said of Clinton:
I would rather not have to vote for her, although she is a friend I respect. A 70-year-old person with a long track record, unbridled ambition, greedy, not transformational, with a husband still dicking bimbos at home (according to the NYP).
Powell served as Secretary of State under Republican president George W. Bush, whose father George H.W. Bush similarly announced that he would cross party lines and vote for Clinton in November.
