Editor in chief of the Daily Caller Geoffrey Ingersoll fired back at Ben Smith on Tuesday after the BuzzFeed News head honcho slammed the conservative website in a leaked email.
Smith — in an email sent to Daily Caller publisher Neil Patel and leaked to BuzzFeed’s own media reporter Steven Perlberg — argued that the website was not a credible news outlet, accusing it of posting “nativist garbage” and “stealth and corporate propaganda.” (Smith’s email failed to mention the Caller’s most egregious offense: the employment of D.C.’s worst reporter, Benny Johnson.)
The flare up between BuzzFeed Ben and Caller Patel stems from an off-the-record meeting with Facebook during which Smith and HuffPost editor Lydia Polgreen reportedly protested the inclusion of the Caller by Facebook.
Ingersoll fired back at Smith’s email in a series of tweets sent out Tuesday, first calling him “dishonest.”
“I thought you breaking an off-the-record agreement to criticize our ethics was kind of funny, but making sure this misinformed pile of whiny dogshit
Perlberg, the BuzzFeed reporter who tweeted out the email, maintained that it was not leaked to him by Smith.
Ingersoll continued by accusing Smith of hypocrisy in his protest of the Caller’s ethics.
