The daughter of Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth appeared to publicly side with her mother’s Democratic opponent, Amy Klobuchar, on Wednesday, even comparing Demuth to President Donald Trump.

Demuth’s daughter, Shelisa Demuth, has publicly broken with her mother before. A survivor of the 2003 shooting at Rocori High School, Shelisa criticized her mother in May for declining to bring a gun control bill banning semiautomatic rifles and high-capacity magazines to the House floor for a vote. She later authored a Minnesota Star Tribune op-ed titled “What my mother got wrong on gun reform,” arguing that Minnesotans “deserved at least a vote” on the legislation.

Her Wednesday comments, though, came via a Threads post on an account linked to her Instagram profile. Mediaite can confirm that both Demuth’s campaign and personal accounts follow her daughter.

“[O]ne of these candidates sounds like Trump and the other sounds like she’s considered the topic more than once before and perhaps has studied the issue with experts who can advise on it. i’ll let you decide who’s who,” the younger Demuth wrote, alongside an article from MPR News titled “How the candidates for Minnesota governor would tackle shortage of affordable housing.”

Responding to a user who commented, “Thank you for stating your truth. It’s funny: you post these things and the press looks the other way, but I’m sure that if you were Amy Klobuchar’s daughter and were calling her out they’d have you on speed dial,” the gubernatorial candidate’s daughter, who works in communications, wrote that “proximity aside, i can always analyze the comms strategy at play, even where one doesn’t exist.”

As CBS News pointed out in May, she’s used Threads to criticize her mother before. On the gun control issue referenced above, she bemoaned on the platform at the time, “Imagine being the first House Speaker in state history who is also the mother of two school shooting victims and conveniently deferring a gun control bill to the next legislative session.”
