Abu Nazir may not have (Spoiler Alert!) made it out of Homeland’s second season alive, but that doesn’t mean the actor who played the terrorist mastermind doesn’t have something valuable to share with the next generation of Arab actors. In a new video from Funny or Die, actor Navid Negahban hosts an infomercial called “How To Be A Terrorist… in Hollywood!” that teaches young Arab (or Arab-looking) actors who to follow in his footsteps.
“As Arab actors, we all know how hard it can be to live up to Hollywood’s stereotypes,” Negahban tells his eager students, before going over such crucial lessons as “To beard or not to beard.” By the end of the session, the actors learn how to “lose their souls” by succumbing to what is sadly some of the only work out there for Arabs in Hollywood.
Earlier this year, Negahban spoke to The Huffington Post about his decision to take the role on Homeland. “When I read the script, I felt that the script was very brave,” he said. “It’s a script that’s never been done before, the way the character was so multi-layered and fascinating, and the way that the character was portrayed as a man, as a human being who’s being put in these situations and he’s just reacting to the given circumstances. I thought it was a great opportunity to show the other side, the human side.”
