Huckabee Sanders Defends Trump From Bannon Criticism: ‘He’s Been Fully Vindicated’ on Firing Comey
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is refuting Steve Bannon‘s suggestion that Donald Trump‘s dismissal of James Comey was a major mistake for his presidency.
During Bannon’s interview with 60 Minutes, the former White House chief strategist effectively said Comey’s firing amounted to the biggest political blunder in modern history. Sanders was asked about this Monday, but she had a much more forceful answer today when she spoke about how the president was totally justified in getting rid of Comey, no matter whether it put Trump in a precarious position.
“The president is proud of the decision he made, he was 100% right in firing James Comey,” said Sanders. “He knew at the time that it could be bad for him politically, but he also knew and felt he had an obligation to do what was right.”
Sanders went on to bash Comey for leaking his memos to the press and reportedly preparing a statement to exonerate Hillary Clinton before his investigation into her email scandal was complete. The press secretary said these revelations were proof that Trump made the correct choice after the fact.
“he’s very happy with the decision he made and he’s been fully vindicated by a lot of those new things and knowing it was the right one,” Sanders said.
