Mike Huckabee has avoided criticizing Donald Trump much on the campaign trail––and this deep social conservative has admitted he’s more ready to throw in with the New Yorker and former Democrat than he is with other GOP rivals––so it’s perhaps no surprise that he (along with Rick Santorum) will be appearing at Trump’s rally tonight opposite the GOP Fox News debate.
However, BuzzFeed obtained audio from Huckabee’s subscriber podcast in which he expressed today how much more substantive the debate would be without Trump’s presence.
He said, “If the Donald sits this one out, at least that might remove the temptation to concentrate on personal bickering and give viewers a chance to hear questions on substantive issues.”
However, Huckabee isn’t optimistic that the media won’t be “devoting most of their coverage to whatever Donald Trump tweets during the debate.”
He also seems rather annoyed that the media has “already decided who’s gonna win” Iowa.
