Radio Host Trashes Bills’ ‘Absurd’ Hiring of Historic First Female Coach Kathryn Smith
Even as a Jets fan, I couldn’t suppress a feeling of pride in the Buffalo Bills for their historic hiring of the first full-time female NFL coach, Kathryn Smith. The move, announced Wednesday, puts me and many other Jets fans in the unenviable position of having to praise the hated Rex Ryan:

Not surprisingly, not everyone is on board with the move. Kevin Kiley, morning drive host for Cleveland’s “Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan” WKRK-FM, combined the news of the hiring with his discovery of the word “absurd” in the dictionary to excrete a tiresome troll rant about how there’s just no place in the NFL for a woman. Warning: if you take a drink every time Kiley says “absurd,” you will die (selected transcript via Deadspin):
This is the old conversation we had about having a woman vote for the Hall of Fame in football. It’s absurd. I mean do you really want your determination, whether you make the Hall of Fame in football, do you want a woman to have a vote on that, who’s never played the game and doesn’t understand the intensity of the game?
[…] When you stand next to a woman are you bigger and stronger? Do you have the ability to impose your will physically on most people? Women don’t have that.
[…] Football is about physical advantage. [Women] are at a loss when it comes to the reference points of football. This is not discrimination against women. I don’t care if a woman is President, that’d be great. I don’t care if a woman runs a corporation, that’d be great. But don’t set people up to fail.
[…] She couldn’t possibly be qualified to the same level that a man could be qualified to do that.
He also calls her “Caitlyn” for good measure, a twofer gender dig at Smith and Caitlyn Jenner.
The entire purpose of this rant is obviously to end up in as many outraged blog posts as possible, so congratulations, Kevin. There will be enough people calling this guy a misogynist idiot for several lifetimes, so I’d prefer to put the kibosh on this idiocy, from HuffPo:
But on Thursday morning, the glass ceiling that was — for a moment– shattered by the promotion was pieced back together, courtesy of Cleveland radio host Kevin Kiley, who condemned the Bills for the move: “There is no place for a woman in professional sports,” he said.
No, HuffPo, some Bro-hole in Cleveland with a morning zoo didn’t “piece back together” the glass ceiling, he maybe cut his dick on them. The whole point of these milestones, late to the party as they are, is that they cannot be undone, no matter who doesn’t like it. Kathryn Smith will face a lot worse than Kevin Freaking Kiley, but none of it will undo this. Just as surely, no amount of calling Kevin Kiley an idiot will deter him, or reduce the number of congratulatory towel-snappings he’ll get in the locker room at the gym.
