‘I’m Not Going To Get Into Specifics…’: Spicer Demurs on Why Conway’s ‘Full Confidence’ Remark Didn’t Hold Up
Yesterday, Kellyanne Conway told MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki that Mike Flynn had Donald Trump‘s “full confidence.” A few hours later, Trump would request, and receive, Flynn’s resignation. Was Conway just straight-up wrong yesterday afternoon or did something happen in that small span of time to change Trump’s mind on Flynn completely?
While some people speculated online, one reporter asked Sean Spicer directly during today’s White House press briefing why Conway’s statement in the afternoon told such a different story than what ended up happening in the late evening.
“I’m not going to get into specifics of what the President’s thinking was,” he said before explaining that yesterday was a day that saw an “evolving situation.” The press secretary added that Trump is just a decisive person who does what he thinks is right and then lets his staff know what he chose to do.
That, at least, holds up.
