At a Tuesday morning press conference, Sessions announced the decision from President Donald Trump to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
“I’m here to announce the program known as DACA, that was set under the Obama Administration is being rescinded,” Sessions said.
The Attorney General cited jobs as a primary concern for the administration making the decision to deport the 800,000 people who were permitted to remain in the United States under DACA.
“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things contributed to a surge of minors at the southern border with humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same illegal aliens to take those jobs.”
