Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA) has admitted that he is dating Shelley Rubino, a top lobbyist who is the vice president for global government affairs for Airlines for America, according to a new Politico report. Shuster chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
Complicating matters for Shuster, the recently-divorced congressman is currently negotiating reforms of the Federal Aviation Administration — a matter that Airlines for America “has a major interest in,” according to Politico.
Rubino, Politico reports, has been at her post since March 2012 and formerly worked as an aide to House Democratic leadership. The two have been in a romantic relationship since last summer.
“Ms. Rubino and I have a private and personal relationship, and out of respect for her and my family that is all I will say about that,” Shuster said in a statement to Politico, adding his office has a policy that prevents Rubino from lobbying him or his staff.
[Correction: This article previously identified Shuster as having still been married. He finalized his divorce last year. We have updated accordingly.]
