CNN’s Abby Phillip Declares Trump ‘Is Not Living in the Real World’ as She Nukes His Response to Low Polling

CNN’s Abby Phillip declared President Donald Trump “does not live in the real world” as she tore apart his response to Americans being “angry” at his administration.

On Saturday’s Table for Five, Phillip was shocked by Trump’s claim that Americans are “angry” at congressional Republicans, but not him. As Phillip noted, Trump has been hit with his worst polling in recent months as the Iran war has raged on and his building projects have proven unpopular.

“I can’t get over…I mean… he did say, ‘Oh, well, Americans are mad, but they’re not mad at me. They’re mad at everybody else. They’re mad at the Republicans.’ That’s not true,” Phillip said, then pulling out a CNN survey from late July conducted by SSRS.

According to the poll, 65% said Trump’s policies have “worsened” economic conditions. Another 22% said they have helped, and 13% said they have had no effect.

“His approval rating, as we just said, is at a record low; 65% of Americans think that he and his policies have worsened economic conditions. Again, the president is not living in the real world, and I’m not sure if that will ever change. But there seems like that has real significant consequences for his party,” Phillip said.

Trump told Punchbowl News this month in an interview that Americans are “not angry” with him.

“They’re angry at Republicans, but they’re not angry at me,” he said.

Trump went on to say he hopes Republicans come out and vote in the midterms, but he understands they’re “very angry.”

“The question is will they vote because a lot of them are very angry at Republicans,” he said.

Phillip wrapped up her segment by taking a shot at Trump over his temporarily lifting tariffs on ground beef imports, a move that has received backlash from some conservatives.

“He’s not even price-fixing the beef, all while making an argument, by the way, against the socialists running for office,” she said. “So we’ll see how that goes.”
