Minnesota Governor Announces He’s Been Diagnosed with Prostate Cancer

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton announced today that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Dayton collapsed during his State of the State address last night and was led out of the chamber into a back room. His chief of staff issued this statement at the time:

Tonight, Governor Dayton briefly fainted after speaking for about 40 minutes. He quickly recovered, walked out of the Capitol, and returned home. EMTs joined the Governor there, and performed a routine check. He is now spending time with his son and grandson. The Governor will present his 2017 Budget tomorrow at 11:15am, as planned. Governor Dayton and his entire staff thank the people of Minnesota for their outpouring of support and concern.

Dayton addressed his health during an event earlier today and he revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last week.

He said that he is still physically and mentally fit to serve as governor, and revealed he’ll be going to the Mayo Clinic next week.
