Rachel Maddow Ridicules Trump Over Withheld JFK Docs: ‘Maybe the Dog Ate It’

“They blew it!” Rachel Maddow said at the outset of her show Thursday.

The MSNBC anchor was referring to the last-minute decision by President Donald Trump to withhold some of the files relating to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. After being on ice for 25 years, those files were long scheduled to be released on Thursday. Many of them were not.

The reason? The redaction process was not completed in time, and several government agencies warned that national security would be harmed.

Maddow mocked the Trump administration for the delay.

“NBC this afternoon got U.S. Intelligence officials to admit that, yeah, the work didn’t — the documents spelling out what’s supposed to be redacted — that didn’t get finished,” Maddow said. “Or maybe the dog ate it. But it wasn’t ready to go.”

The MSNBC anchor cautioned Beltway media to recalibrate their coverage in light of the Trump administration dropping the ball on planned actions such as the release of the JFK documents.

“In this administration…figuring out what they want to do or even what they think they’re doing, that doesn’t necessarily have any relation to what actually gets done.”
