It was reported earlier today that an intruder was apprehended late last night breaching the White House grounds. The man was arrested near the south portico at the back of the White House, and was carrying a backpack that contained nothing hazardous. President Donald Trump was at the White House last night during the security breach.
Later in the day, Trump gave a short response to reporters while sitting at a lunch in the White House.
“Secret Service did a fantastic job last night,” he said. “I appreciated it. Secret Service did a fantastic job. It was a troubled person. Very sad. Secret Service was fantastic.”
CNN provided some more details on the individual who was arrested. Jonathan Tran, 26, was living in his car and eating junk food, per his family. A graduate of San Jose University, Tran had been laid off from his electrical engineering position. Per his brother, he had become troubled since losing his job.
