Special Counsel Robert Mueller has lost one of his top investigators working on the Russia probe.
ABC News reports that FBI veteran Peter Strzok left Mueller’s team that is still investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. According to ABC, he now works in the FBI’s human resources department and it is unclear as to why he left the special counsel’s investigation.
In 2016, Strrzok served as the chief in the counterespionage section of the agency and helped oversee the investigation into Hillary Clinton‘s private email server. He also was one of the individuals who interviewed Clinton that led to then-FBI Director James Comey‘s infamous press conference where he decided not to recommend criminal charges against the former Secretary of State.
Earlier this month, it was leaked to the press that Mueller had impaneled a grand jury for the ongoing investigation. And shortly after President Trump drew a red line for Mueller not to investigate his business and finances, it was reported that Mueller’s investigation had expanded to include the Trump empire.
