Trump Calls Mitt Romney a ‘Straight Shooter,’ Reporter Reminds Him ‘He Called You a Con Man’
Mitt Romney is apparently back in President Donald Trump‘s good graces.
All it took was for the Utah Senate candidate to predict that Trump will “easily” win reelection in 2020.
“I think that not just because of the strong economy and the fact that people are going to see increasingly rising wages,” Romney said — in comments reported by multiple outlets. “But I think it’s also true because I think our Democrat friends are likely to nominate someone who is really out of the mainstream of American thought and will make it easier for a president who’s presiding over a growing economy.”
Moments before leaving Washington for the G7 Summit in Canada Friday morning, the president just couldn’t say enough kind things about his ol’ pal Mitt.
“Look, Mitt’s a straight shooter,” said Trump, with something resembling a straight face. “Whether people love him or don’t love him –”
A reporter cut him off.
“But he called you a con man,” the reporter said.
Trump brushed right past the interruption.
“Look, Mitt Romney is a straight shooter,” the president said. “He had some very nice things to say. I appreciate that. That’s good.”
The relationship between Trump and Romney has had more twists than As the World Turns — but it seems, for now, that the two are back on again.
