Trump Decries ‘Poor’ Forest Management in Response to CA Wildfires, Threatens to Pull Federal Funding

The wildfires in California have killed at least nine people, and thousands more have evacuated their homes. Many homes have been destroyed or damaged.

And this morning, President Donald Trump weighed in by blaming poor forest management and threatening to withhold federal funding to California:

“There is no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor,” he tweeted. “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now, or no more Fed payments!”

The tweet came hours after the President issued an emergency declaration for California.
