Trump Voices Support For Iran Protesters in Tweet: ‘Govt Should Respect Their People’s Rights’
Anti-government demonstrations that began in Iran on Thursday have now spread to several major cities, and President Donald Trump has now officially chimed in on the protests via his favorite medium, Twitter.
In a Friday night Tweet, Trump voiced his support for the protesters saying they have the “right to express themselves”:
Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime’s corruption & its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism abroad. Iranian govt should respect their people’s rights, including right to express themselves. The world is watching! #IranProtests

People there took to the streets to express anger at the government over high prices, and vented their fury against President Hassan Rouhani.
According to the AP, 52 people were arrested for chanting what the government considered harsh slogans.
The protests spread to other cities in the northeast part of the country, and some developed into broader anti-government demonstrations, calling for the release of political prisoners and an end to police beatings.
