Kimmel began by asking who was at fault for the issue at hand. Was it the academy for not recognizing black actor? Hollywood for not writing enough racially-diverse roles? Was it Kimmel’s nemesis Matt Damon just… just because?
Kimmel then brought in “Stewart Bloom” (Even Stevens‘ Tom Virtue) of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the P.R. director proposed a solution of tweaking the nominated white-washed films to make them more inclusive.
As Bloom showed, things will improve once films like The Revenant, Room, and Steve Jobs get rebranded as The Revenant Al Sharpton, Crib (Starring Queen Latifah and Kevin Hart), and Steve Harvey (which Bloom promised would reference the infamous Miss Universe blunder).
