WATCH: New Year’s Eve 2018 Ball Drop in Times Square LIVESTREAM

A good portion of the country is still in the middle of a cold wave, but that’s not going to stop New York City revelers from heading to Times Square and watching the New Years Eve ball drop.

City officials expect at least a million people to show up tonight despite the frigid temperatures, and media projections expect that the descent of the crystal ball will score a billion views worldwide. Thousands of people have lined up for tickets already, and there is significant excitement for the fireworks show, musical entertainment, and stores of confetti that will rain down on the crowd.

This year’s entertainment will include performances from Andy Grammer, Neil Diamond, Chyno Mirando and Leslie Grace with Play-N-Skillz. Mariah Carey will also appear on ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” where she’ll get a do-over after her performance last year went badly wrong.

Due to recent terror incidents, the NYPD is putting new security measures into effect to help ensure the safety of the crowd. Parking garages will be closed down, counter-sniper and observation teams have been dispatched, and various other protective strategies will be used among a multitude of security checkpoints.
