WH Says Trump Is ‘Supportive of Efforts to Improve’ Gun Background Check System

In the past few days, young survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting have been calling for lawmakers to take action on guns and singling out President Donald Trump in particular.

On Twitter, Trump mostly stuck to tweeting about Russia this past weekend, though according to The Washington Post, the President “surveyed Mar-a-Lago Club members about whether he ought to champion gun control measures in the wake of last week’s school massacre in nearby Parkland, telling them that he was closely monitoring the media appearances by some of the surviving students, according to people who spoke with him there.”

Would the president actually support any gun control measures? Well, today the White House put out this statement:

Trump himself, however, has not publicly weighed in. He is scheduled to take part in a listening session with students and teachers at the Parkland, Florida school on Wednesday.
