Will Ferrell And Zach Galifianakis Spoof American Politics In New Movie
Monday evening saw the debut of a teaser trailer for the upcoming Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis-starring political comedy, “The Campaign.” The two comedy stars play rival politicians vying for a Congressional seat, in what is sure to be a funny send-up of American politics.
The teaser shows mock political ads for each of the “candidates,” spoofing the requisite political buzzwords like “freedom,” “family,” “dreamer,” and “ideas.”
Ferrell’s candidate is a bullying, obliviously misogynistic buffoon (gee, I wonder who the screenwriters picked as the Republican candidate). Galifianakis’ candidate is an affable small-town farm boy with a slightly effeminate southern drawl.
Hey, wait a minute: don’t these characters sound familiar? Will Ferrell is just re-doing his famous George W. Bush impression with the hair of John Edwards. And Galifianakis is just repurposing his “Seth Galifianakis” character!
Oh, whatever. We look forward to seeing the Jay Roach-directed film when it comes out August 10th.
